Jacob Lusk, the gospel voice, was in the bottom three last week and began this week's American Idol performance night by singing, "Oh No, Not My Baby." Steven Tyler said he was happy Jacob shook his tail feathers, Jennifer Lopez said there were several rough spots but he brought it, and Randy Jackson said he showed he was a singer again.
Lauren Alaina was surprised during song practice by her country singing idol, Miley Cyrus. Lauren selected, "Where You Lead, I Will Follow." Jennifer Lopez said Lauren was pushing which is a good thing, Randy Jackson said she came up with a vengeance, and Steven Tyler said she shined when her voice broke.
Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrams joined in a duet singing Carole King's, "I Feel The Earth Move." Casey said he liked the way their voices growled together. Haley and Casey have previously performed together on American Idol and their raspy jazzy tones merge well.
Scotty McCreery, the stick to his guns baritone country singer, selected, "You've Got A Friend." Scotty switched it up and sang it soft and romantic, receiving a standing ovation. Randy Jackson said it was flawless, Steven Tyler said he never sang it better, and Jennifer Lopez said his strength is his story telling.
James Durbin, the American Idol contestant who is showing American you can face your challenges and overcome them, due to his diagnosis of Asperger's and Tourette's Syndrome, chose a softer tone, singing, "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow." He played his guitar, and Kenny Babyface Edmonds said he was blown away during rehearsal. James also received a standing ovation. Steven said it was beautiful, Jennifer thought his performance was magical and he was the star of the night, and Randy said he proved he wasn't only a great rock singer but an overall great singer. Randy offered James a hug and said he was this year's American Idol winner.
Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, the country duo American idol contestants, sang a romantic, "Up On The Roof." Jennifer Lopez said they did a beautiful job together.
Casey Abrams, the living on the edge performer chose, "Hidey Hidey Hidey Ho," singing a jazzy version from the Blues Brothers, receiving a standing ovation. He tinkled the piano a little and wore Blues Brother's attire. Randy Jackson liked the fact Casey switches it up each show, Jennifer Lopez wants him to loosen his body up a little more, and Steven Tyler said in his own unique almost censored way that he loved his performance.
Haley Reinhart chose, "Beautiful." Steven Tyler said Haley is as beautiful as the song and that she nailed it. Jennifer said she has one of the best voices in the competition, and Randy Jackson said he didn't like the beginning but she got it together.
James Durbin and Jacob Lusk finished the show with their energetic powerhouse duet, "I'm Into Something Good." Steven Tyler said he wasn't sure where they were going with the song because of their interesting interaction with Jennifer Lopez's leg.
Tomorrow night is result elimination show. Bruno Mars and Crystal Bowersox, last year's runner up American Idol, will be the guest performers.
