Tonight's performance, April 13, 2011, Paul McDonald started off with, Bob Seeger's, "Old Time Rock and Roll," from, "Risky Business," dressed in a flashy Vegas suit and accompanied by a female sax player. The judges loved his style and polish. Lauren Alaina sang Miley Cyrus's song, "The Climb," from, "Hannah Montana The Movie." The judges thought she was perfect and didn't need to take any votes from Pia Toscano as her mentors including Will-I-Am advised in rehearsal. Stefano Langone sang, "End of The Road," by, Boys To Men, from the movie, "Boomerang." He received a standing ovation and Randy Jackson said he slayed the song, Jennifer Lopez said he's singing to win it now.
Scotty McCreery, the always country singer sang, "I Cross My Heart," by, George Strait, from the movie, "Pure Country." Steven Tyler loved his voice, Jennifer thought he was just great and Randy thought a star was born on the stage. A neat appearing Casey Abrams sang a jazzy version of Nat King Cole's, "Nature Boy," from the movie, "Moulin Rouge," with his standing bass. He received a standing ovation by judges and audience. The judges appreciated his choice of style and for sticking to his guns against the mentor's choice of song. Haley Reinhart sang Blondie's song, "Call Me," from, "American Gigolo." Randy said it wasn't a showcase of her voice and the other judges also agreed with him.
Jacob Lusk was in the bottom three last week and his mentor Jimmy advised he try singing, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters," by Simon & Garfunkel, from the movie, "The Pursuit of Happiness." Steven Tyler said he puts so much into a song, Jennifer said he sings from another place and Randy said he did an amazing job. James Durbin ended tonight's American Idol performance night by singing, "Heavy Metal," from the movie, "Heavy Metal." Jimmy and Will.I.Am, the contestant's mentors disagreed with his Sammy Hagar song choice but the audience went wild. The judges also were ecstatic and loved the fact he stuck with his guns.
Tonight's performance night was amazing but hope America votes wisely to assure the right contestant gets sent home, difficult though it may be. My thoughts are that Haley Reinhart had the weakest performance.
This week's American Idol controversy concerned an American Idol audience fan, Ashley Kaufman, who reports an American Idol staff member and usher allegedly both commented on her weight and made her sit in the back of a section, implying she was too heavy to be seen in the front viewing row. This was reported on GMA, an ABC morning program on April 13th, 2011.
