'American Idol:' Picks for the Top 5 Boys & Top 5 Girls Who Will Remain on March 4, 2011

Predictions for the Top Ten Finalists (5 Boys, 5 Girls) Who Will Remain After March 4, 2011

Connie Wilson
Fox, Wednesday, March 3, 2011, 8 PM (ET) Who should make it into the Top Five girls on "American Idol" after the performances of the girls on Wednesday and who should be among the Top Five Men, whittled down from the 12 male contestants who performed on Tuesday?

TOP 5 "AMERICAN IDOL" GIRLS

Here are my picks for tomorrow night's Top Five girls: Top girls should be Pia Toscano, Laura Alaina, Kendra Chantelle. Ashthon Jones and Haley Reinhart. My husband feels nearly the same way, but he would substitute Karen Rodriguez and Lauren Turner for either Kendra or Haley. I'll explain why I feel these are the Top Five momentarily, in another article devoted to just the girls' performances on March 3, but let's move on to predicting the Top Five Male contestants.

TOP 5 "AMERICAN IDOL" BOYS

The Top Five men have to include Jacob Lusk and Casey Abrams. After that, my own personal remaining 3 would include Paul McDonald, James Durbin and Robbie Rosen. I think the spouse is mostly in agreement with these picks. Each of us can lose Stefano Langone, Brett Lowenstern and the dude from the shipyards (Jovany Baretto) without a backward glance. It is less likely that Scotty McReery, the C&W singer, will be jettisoned. I hope so, because I admit to no love for country music. I'm sad that Tim Halperin and Jordan Dorsey did not do their best, as they were and are something special, but when the chips were down they did not deliver. Poor song choice on their Big Night did them both in, and I don't look for either to survive, although it would make me happy if they did.

There have been some stand-outs among the contestants since Day One: Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk, Casey Abrams, Pia Toscano and James Durbin. True, part of James Durbin's appeal has been his back-story about suffering from Asperger's Syndrome and Tourette's Syndrome (talk about a double-whammy), but the film shot in James Durbin's humble apartment went a long way towards explaining what a life-altering opportunity this title shot is for James and his young family.

Good luck to all the contestants, heading in to March 4 and the announcement of who will vault into the Final Ten, which is a move that is being made sooner in Season Ten than in previous years.

Hi Beth (And Laura)...and thanks for reading: Beth. Good work! You got 100% on the guys' side. I can (sort of) lay claim to 100%, if you read what I said about Scotty and the appeal of C&W music. I knew he'd be a hard cut in the ranks for those who really groove on the Nashville sound. At any rate, I feel vindicated by my picks in the girls' area, and you were right on the money with the boys.

Now, as for the girls: I knew Karen was a very likely winner, with her Spanish rendition of her song, and that turned out to be true. You were right about Thia, but wrong about the two :Laurens...unless, of course the Judges pick them, which is happening right now, as I watch this.

I think we did well! You got the boys (and, with the hedging on Scotty, so did I). I got Haley, whom you did not think would make it, but I missed on Thia. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. I think we did pretty well.

Gotta' go back and see who the judges pick...and they are going to pick 3 of
