American Idol Result Show-Top Five to Top Four Contestant
May 5th 2011 America Votes an American Idol Off
American Idol presented their sixty minute result show May 5, 2011 after last night's American Idol performances. The top five American Idol contestants offered their best in last night's performance show. Jacob Lusk, Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, and James Durbin each performed two songs, using this week's theme, "Songs From Now & Then." Casey Abrams was sent home last week. The three judges, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, thought last night's performances were mainly fantastic and America would have a difficult decision regarding their voting choice. Sheryl Crow was this week's guest mentor for the American Idol contestants.
During last night's American Idol performance, James Durbin sang, "Closer To The Edge," by, Thirty Seconds To Mars, and, "Without You," by Pete Ham and Tom Evans. He showed emotion during the second song thinking about his family. The judges said he delivered well despite visible emotion. affecting his voice.
Jacob Lusk sang, "No Air," by Jordan Sparks, (American Idol's season six winner) and Chris Brown. He also sang, "Love Hurts," by Nazareth. The judges said he redeemed himself after a poor performance the first song. Lauren Alaina sang Carrie Underwood's, "Flat On The Floor," and, "Unchained Melody," a Righteous Brother song. The judges believed she found her niche with nothing to judge because she was fantastic.
Scotty McCreery chose, "Gone," By Montgomery Gentry, and, "Always On My Mind," by Elvis Presley. The judges thought he sang like a veteran performer in concert. Haley Reinhart, sang an unreleased Lady Gaga song, "You and I," and, "House Of The Rising Sun," by, The Animals. The judges believed her second song was the best performance of the night, after they critiqued her first song choice.
Tonight's American Idol result show started with the American Idol contestants and judges sharing their thoughts about the previous night's performance. Ryan Seacrest, the host, announced that sixty million votes came in. The top five took the stage and performed a group song, "Happy Together," by the Turtles.
American Idol's main sponsor, Ford Focus and the American Idols were in a video, with the top five contestants performing street magic. Another video clip ran with Chef Gorden Ramsey from, "Hells Kitchen," judging the five American Idol contestants as they prepared omelets. Jacob Lusk and Lauren were tied as the top chefs and participated in a blind taste test, with Lauren winning.
Lady Antebellum took the stage and performed, "Just A Kiss."
The vote result started with Ryan Seacrest announcing America might be surprised at the vote results, James Durbin was called up first and Lauren Alaina but were sent to separate sides of the stage. Jimmy Lovine, the onset vocal coach critiqued their performances, saying James Durbin let his emotions get the best of his voice and Lauren Alaina showed fear and pulled back on a note. Both contestants had to wait before hearing their results.
Jennifer Lopez took the stage in a shimmery silver fringe midriff top and pants to perform her dance single, "On The Floor," from her latest album, "Love?" A video preview of her song, "I'm Into You," also aired, a hot video with Jennifer on the beach paired up with a muscular bare chest hunk.
Jacob Lusk was called up next and joined Lauren on her side. Jimmy Lovine said Jacob had a rough night. Haley Reinhart joined James Durbin on his side of the stage. Jimmy Lovine said he believed Haley was a ten for both songs. Scotty McCreery was called next, and Jimmy Lovine thought Scotty was going to have an extraordinary career no matter if he won or not. Scotty McCreery was declared safe. Ryan Seacrest asked him to choose the side he thought would stay but Scotty refused to choose.
Ryan Seacrest led Scotty McCreery over to the side of the stage where James Durbin and Haley Reinhart stood and declared all three safe. Lauren Alaina and Jacob Lusk were told they were the bottom two American Idol contestants.
Jacob Lusk was told he was the American Idol contestant going home with the least amount of votes, Lauren Alaina joins Scotty McCreery, James Durbin and Haley Reinhart as the top four contestants. I think America got the vote right because Jacob had the poorest performance last night.

Post a CommentNice review! It's really getting exciting to see who it will be! I was ready for Jacob to go. He is a character and not only did he not quit singing, he was a little petulant with the press later. Hmmmmm
Even though Jacob was eliminated, he went out with a big bang. He didn't seem to want to let his journey end as he kept onf singing. Good recap Claire.
I was working out during this time. I think I burned more calories this way, you know?
You know, it is hard - they are all really good and Jacob had a fairly weaker performance that night. He'll do just fine - they all will, good recap, cheers ;)
