American Idol Results: Chikezie Sent Home Too Soon?

Who Really Should of Went Home

Sally Albright
Wednesday night on American Idol we saw yet another contestant get sent home. This week it was Chikezie who has hit the end of his American Idol journey, at least until the official tour kicks off. But should Chikezie of been sent home on American Idol last night or did he depart the show too early?

In the beginning of American Idol I had my doubts about Chikezie. His performances weren't stellar and I wasn't sure that the Idol judges knew what they were doing when they selected Chikezie to be included in the final 24. Then things changed. Chikezie appeared to be a different man as he entered the stage and delivered a performance that finally convinced me that he deserved to be on American Idol a few weeks back.

This week on Idol Chikezie got up on stage and gave a performance which earned him a label of "old fashioned" by Simon, hardly what you want to hear when you are a contestant on American Idol. While I agree that it was a bit old fashioned I didn't think that it was bad enough to have Chikezie voted off of American Idol. Still he could have changed the song up a bit and added a bit of his signature funk to the song which may have ultimately saved him.

The other two contestants on the bottom three were Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro. Syesha shocked me when I saw her in the bottom three, just as Chikezie did, and made me wonder if America is really getting it right. Jason wasn't as much of a surprise though I thought that his striking eyes and sweet nature would make him appealing to fans even after they grew tired of hearing him sing sweetly along to the strumming of his guitar.

If I were able to pick who I thought should be in the bottom three it would have been: Kristy Lee Cook, Ramiele Malubay, and Chikezie. As far as whom I would have voted off of American Idol it would have been Kristy Lee Cook. Here's why.

Kristy Lee Cook continues to keep her spot on American Idol despite that fact that she has little talent which makes her undeserving to be on the show. While she seems like quite a sweet young woman she just doesn't have enough talent to become the winner of a singing talent competition. In fact, David Hernandez and Amanda Overmyer had more talent than Kristy Lee Cook and yet they bid a farewell before her. I just can't honestly believe that fans of American Idol would pay to see Kristy Lee Cook singing on stage for the Idol tour. Apparently I must be hearing something completely different than everyone else because she is still there. Chikezie meanwhile has been kicked off because he isn't a skinny white girl who could pass as a model.

Of course this is just my opinion and everyone is certainly entitled to theirs. I have no doubt however that Kristy Lee Cook will see her time come up very soon. Then American Idol can go on to become a singing talent competition.

Kristy Lee Cook has talents ok girls what are you smoking? She can really sing and she sings good. Of course she is no where near Carly or Brooke but she is a major attraction to the show. Besides she is the only bona fide country girl who has the American heritage alone.

It was sad to see Chikezie go because he has tons of talent. He really shouldn't have been kicked off. I think in the long run, it won't matter because he'll get a record deal, no doubt. As for who's going to win? I say Syesha - hands down. Even though she was also in the bottom 3 (which I also didn't get), she's really good and still has time to impress some more. :-)

We're all really sad to see Chikezie go - he was really cool and hope this won't deter from a fantastic singing career for him. Good luck Chikezie!! In the meantime, we'd like to see Syesha win, she's got a wonderful voice and we're only just beginning to see the full range and depth of her singing.

I'm not watching this year. I just can't get into most of the singers for the second year in a row. However, I appreciate your article and point of view a lot.
