Nine little Indians, now there are eight. Last week's elimination of punk-rocker Gina Glockson set the stage for this week's even more confusing latest episode of American Idol. Gina Glockson, who had been told in the past by Executive Producer Nygel Lythgeu that her pierced tongue stud would not appeal to America, finished her sentence on "Idol" by throwing her stuffed good-luck charm to the crowd. "Pickles," had finished bringing the teary-eyed Glockson any more luck.
In last week's elimination, host Ryan Seacrest, called the 'Idol' hopefuls forward into three groups. Jordin Sparks 17, who hails from Glendale, Arizona, Melinda Doolittle 29, from Brentwood, Tennessee and Lakisha Jones 27 who lives in Fort Meade, Maryland were all safe. What a surprise! The three women are the most highly reguarded of the "Idol," hopefuls. All three have superb singing voices. They are also among the most popular singers on Fox's number one rated, reality T.V. show. There was no doubt in the minds of the audience that these three would survive to sing another week.
The results of the 'middle of the road' group of three, was to be, a little more suspenseful. This group consisted of Blake Lewis 25, who is from Bothell, Washington. Blake is also known for his unique singing style called 'Beat-boxing.' Next in the middle three was Chris Richardson, 22 of Chesepeake, Virgina, who could replace pop-singer Justin Timberlake without any notice at all. Last but not at all least, was 17 year old Sanjaya Malakar who comes from a small town known as Federal Way, Washington. This fact could have surprised you or not depending on which side of the Sanjaya (road) you are on. The young singer of Indian heritige, (the country, not the tribe) has been the center of much controversy throughout the country and possibly the world, about his talent or lack there of.
The final bottom three were, Haley Scornato 24, the pretty little vixen who cajoled judge, Simon Cowell into letting her know he appreciated her feminine attributes. It certainly wasn't her drab performance of "Ain't Miss-behavin." The now defunct Gina Glockson and Phil Stacey, 29 years old, who comes from Jacksonville, Florida. Stacey has been in the bottom three for the third time this last week. He had missed the birth of his child during 'American Idol' try outs.
This week the group will be tutored by none other than Latin super-star, Jennifer Lopez. Miss Lopez will offer handy-dandy little singing and performing tips to the hopefulls. The platinum-record selling singer will also do her current hit, titled "Que Hiciste." Translated into English the title means, "What Did You Do?" Is this a hint to America about the kind of talent it finds interesting? Maybe it should be directed to the Idol judges who just seem to be a bit lost this year. Randy Jackson who is usually a mellow fellow, has turned nasty this year. Paula Abdul who is still the same, appears slightly confused all the time and Simon Cowell who, when not injecting venomous remarks at the hopefuls, tends to get a lot of satisfaction out of verbally sparring with host, Ryan Seacrest.
This weeks theme will be Latin music. The past weeks have seen stars such as Diana Ross, Gwen Stefani, Tony Bennett who was replaced last minute due to the flu, by Pop- singer Michael Buble. There were also appearances by sixties-singers, LuLu and Peter Noone. Each week brings a theme or music from a period or style from which the hopefuls must choose their week's song. The first night the songs are sung and the following night, one singer will be eliminated depending on their popularity, or lack of it.
Shock-jock, Howard Stern, known for his outrageous contests and statements, has made it known that he is trying to trifle with the outcome of this year's contest by egging on the votes for the un-studly, not so vocally talented, Sanjaya Malakar. There have even been web sites encouraging the voting erected. one of these sites is called votefortheworst.com Stern vowed to undermine the hit show by claiming that the votes can be tampered with by outside influences.
Past Idol stars who have gone on to continued fame are blonde, country singer Bucky Covington, who was in the final twelve last season. Covington will make his debut on the "Grand Ole Opry." The show which is a counrty music staple has been around for years. Chris Daughtry one of the final three in last year's competition, has a number one selling nation-wide album in the U.S.A. Kelly Clarkson has become one of the top singers on the charts with her multiple hits. This past year Jennifer Hudson won an Academy Award and was given a Golden Globe for her performance in the Broadway hit, "Dream Girls."

I have to agree with Carol, great presentation. We watch every week and every week we just shake our heads with wonderment. Keep up the great articles!
You know the funny thing about it is, personally I think that the couple of really good singers are way above the others and should be in a different contest. I think Sanjaya sees like a sweet kid and he definitely can market himself. With this show I gave up trying to predict. It's now a popularity contest.
The truth is that Melinda and Lakisha are so good, probably neither of them will win. I like Sanjaya, but if he wins with his questionable talent, I'm done with this show because it shows that it means absolutely nothing.
Still can't stand Am Idol, but I love reading your articles. :>)
Personally, I feel Melinda could win it all this year. Good article!
