American Idol Results Night: The Top 9 Contestants Results After Lennon-McCartney Songbook Night

One Gets Saved and Two Go Home Next Week

Tonight was result night for the top nine contestants of season nine, who sang songs from the Lennon-McCartney songbook. Without a mentor for the week, the only feedback the contestants received was from the four judges--that and the people yelling from the audience. I thought it was the best night, so far, for season nine. I voted for the most people I have voted for so far in one night this season--six contestants. My predictions for the bottom three were Aaron, Tim, and Andrew.

The results show started out with Ryan setting up the night, saying that the producers said there were going to be shocking results. He also announced that the performances of the night would be from Jason Derulo, Rhianna, and David Archuleta. After that and after introducing the panel of judges, he talked about Idol Gives back, and asked the panel what they were donating.

After Ryan finished running his mouth, the top nine contestants came out and sang a medley of Lennon-McCartney hits, including "Here, There, and Everywhere," "Got to Get You Into My Life, "Fool on the Hill," "All You Need is Love," "She Loves You," and "The End."

Then, the first commercial break of the night, took place. I sighed and wished that they would just get with the program, literally.

When the show came back, as always, the week's Ford Focus Video was shown. This week's was set the song "We Go Round in Circles."

Siobhan Magnus was asked to stand up first. She sang "Across the Universe" last night. After hearing a few words from the judges, she was sent to the center of the stage and Crystal Bowersox was asked to step down. After a brief review, she was asked to join Siobhan. Then, Katie was asked to come down. Ryan reviewed her performance and asked who she was singing it to, to which she replied, "My grandma." Katie was asked to join the other two girls on the stage. Ryan then asked Randy if any of them were going home, and he didn't think it was possible. Ryan then announced that Crystal was safe from going home. Ryan caused a dramatic scene, which was led to make you think one of them was safe, and one of them was going home. The judges and Ryan like to pick on the contestants, so after anticipation set in, Ryan announced that Katie and Siobhan were both safe, as well.

When the show resumed from break, Ryan announced that next week, Adam Lambert will be the contestants' mentor. Then, the first performer of the night took the stage--Jason Derulo, who sang his hit, "In My Head." Afterward, Ryan had commentary on the pyrotechnics. Also, he asked, Kara, who was the one to sign Jason Derulo, what she liked about him. Of course, she had a nice answer.

After another commercial break, Ryan came back and reminded everyone that the bottom three had not been chosing. Then, David Archuleta was introduced. Just as he did during either Beatles week or Lennon-McCartney week in season seven, he sang a BEAUTIFUL rendition of John Lennon's song, "Imagine," which is one of my absolute favorite songs. After his performance, he got a very chipper welcome back to the stage.

David got somewhat rushed off the stage so that the results could be resumed. Lee, who sang "Hey Jude," witch bagpipe accompanyment, was asked to stand up. After a short review and a little encouragement, he was asked to go to the "far" side of the stage. Michael Lynche was then asked to stand up. His performance of "Eleanor Rigby," which had interesting feedback, was reviewed. He was then asked to go to the other side of the stage. Then, Casey was asked to stand up. He sang "Jealous Guy" last night. He was reminded of his greatness then asked to join Lee. The fourth guy was called, and it was Aaron. His mediocre performance of "The Long and winding Road" was scrutinized, and was then asked to join Big Mike. Lastly, Tim then Andrew were called. Tim was asked to join the group with Lee and Casey, and then Andrew was called to join Mike and Aaron.

The setup was to show that one group was safe and that one was not. Ellen was asked which group she thought was the bottom three. Her guess was the group that contained Mike, Aaron, and Andrew. She got booed and then she joked and said she meant the other group. Ryan then announced that Michael, Aaron, and Andrew were in the bottom three. Very rapidly after, he announced that Aaron was safe. This shocked the hell out of me.

After yet another commercial, the showe resumed and Ryan made the two remainingh guys from the bottom three seats even more anxious by reminding them of their uncertain fate. Then, Ryan announced the final guest performer for the night, Rhianna, singing ger song, "Rockstar 101," which I think sounded absolutely awful. However, there are apparently people who like that song, since Rhianna is so successful. After her performance, there was another commercial break.

Finally, the show came back and the results were given. Ryan announed that Andrew Garcia is safe for another week, leaving Big Mike singing for his life. He sang "A Woman's World," in hopes of saving himself from going home and ending his journey on American Idol. After a short deliberation, the judges decided to use their one save, which was only valid until the top five. In my opinion, it was a very wise choice. Everyone in the audience, as well as the other contestants seemed very pleased with the choice. This means that next week, two contestants go home.
