American Idol Results Shock and Stun

Kris Allen America's Idol 2009

The new 2009 American Idol Finale proved to be more shocking than "Who shot J.R." and I think that millions of people were truly stunned at the outcome. Kris Allen wins the competition. Adam Lambert is the runner-up.

What a strange year for American Idol and their fans. Who knew it would be such a close call or that Adam wouldn't win the title. Lambert's performances last night with Queen and Kiss were remarkable and memorable. Adam's comfort level on stage in front of iconic Rock & Roll legends proves that maybe America got it wrong? Or did they?

Kris Allen, the small town Arkansas boy snuck up during the competition week after week. When he sang the Kanye West song one would swear the planets rearranged themselves. His rendition was superb and was just enough to give him the edge he needed over Adam, but the defining moment was the last week and the song composed just for the final two. While the song was pretty awful, it did suit Kris better, which doesn't say a whole lot. Kris can sing a mediocre song better than Adam?

While Adam appeared the epitome of composure last night, it was clear that he was stunned at the outcome. He held himself high and pasted a genuine smile on his face for Kris. Perhaps Adam is not as disappointed as we might assume? Perhaps Adam is happier knowing that he can make his own musical decisions and not have Idol breathing down his neck to do it their way?

Let's face it, Kris Allen is cute and clearly talented, but he doesn't have the vocal prowess that Lambert does. While much of the public is stunned at the outcome, we have no choice but to put our differences aside and embrace Kris Allen. Congratulations to our small town boy next door for his win!

Kris will go on to dozens of interviews and answer the same dull questions. "How did it feel to win?" "Were you surprised?" Blah, blah, blah. Kris will release that awful song, co-written by Kara DioGuardi and maybe sell 100,000 copies, while Adam will collaborate with Rock & Roll royalty and release the next #1 tune.

So then, while we all complain and formulate conspiracy theories as to this year's outcome, the final two will start their careers. Congratulations to both of you, you've got big changes ahead of you, and Adam, we'll be seeing you for decades to come!
