Kris Allen started off the night singing "The Way You Look Tonight". He had very controlled vocals and, in my opinion, I think this was one of his best performances yet. Awesome job! Randy said he personally thinks it was Kris's best performance. Kara said he set the technical standard incredibly high. She also said it was an unique approach to the song. Paula said he has made the transition from being the adorable boy next door to the ever so handsome and sophisticated gentleman. She called Kris the contemporary crooner, perfect and impeccable. Simon said that he was not quite enthusiastic as the others. He thought it was a little bit wet (whatever that means). He also compared him to a well trained Spaniel. (Uh?)
Allison sang, Someone To Watch Over Me". She had awesome vocals! So far tonight, the song choices seem to be agreeing with the contestants. I thought Allison did a superb job! Randy said, "that was the bomb" ! Kara said that Allison is not just a one trick pony or just a rock chick. Kara called it a "way beyond your years rendition".
Paula called the performance innocent, had sensibility, alluring and very tender. She said she was very proud of Allison. Simon asked Allison if she thought she believed she could win. He said he doesn't feel that belief in her. He called it a great performance, but said she could be in trouble tonight. Kara called Simon crazy!
Matt's s song choice was, "My Funny Valentine". I thought it was a great song choice for him and right up his alley! I thought he did a good job on his performance, but for me it wasn't his best performance. I was anxious to see if the judges agreed. Randy said it was a little bit pitchy and that it didn't quite come together. Kara said that she didn't feel he was emotionally connected to the song. Paula loved what he did with the song and she said she was glad that he took Jamie's advice to lower the key. She felt that Matt was emotionally connected. She called it pure, simple, and really impressive.Simon said that he had to disagree with Randy. He said it was the only believable and authentic song he has heard that night. He called it absolutely brilliant!
Danny sang, "Come Rain Or Shine". I loved the way he walked out to the mic. Danny was dynamite! Excellent song choice for him and excellent performance. Randy said that Danny is the only one he has heard tonight that could have an album of songs like that and win! Kara said he had "swag" tonight. She said it was the most creative he has been with melody. She said, "unbelievable"! Paula called it a stellar performance. Simon said confidence came out and that Danny was there to prove a point. He called it the best vocals he's heard in weeks.
Adam ended the evening singing his rendition of, "Feeling Good'. Personally, his performance did nothing for me. He did have amazing vocals as usual, but I didn't care for the song. Randy called it a little theatrical and Broadway, but that Adam was in the zone consistently. Kara said it was shocking and she was confused, but that she liked it. Paula said that Adam makes her feel better than good. Simon told Adam, "You want to win". He called it the best entrance on American Idol.
