Which Vocalists Stood Out in American Idol on the March 3, 2009 Episode?

The American Idol show on March 3, 2009 was an exciting one. The show featured 12 super contestants who all performed a song for the crowd. There were some great, questionable, and poor performances in tonight's episode. Here are the ones that stood out to me.

Arianna Afsar: Afsar was by far and away the worst performance on the night. Afsar, a 16-year-old from San Diego, Calfornia, did not have very good vocals. Her performance of ABBA's song "Winner Takes It All" was very difficult to listen to. She frequently missed notes and appeared a little uncomfortable on stage. Though she was attempting to take an old song and revitalize it into something new, Simon did not like her attempt at doing this at all.

Ju'Not Joyner: Joyner's performance was praised by the judges. However, I felt that his rendition of the Plain White T's "Hey There, Delilah" was extremely boring, and it's overwhelmingly slow style seemed to lull me to sleep. However, the passion was there-Joyner needed a song that invigorated the audience, and he did not capitalize on that.

Kristen McNamara: McNamara was described as having "identity issues," and I could not agree more. Her performance was solid, but not standout. Perhaps standing out even more was how poorly she was dressed-the judges discussed her clothing choice more than once, expressing their displeasure.

Lil Rounds: By far and away the best performance of the night, Rounds has an incredible stage presence and extremely strong vocals. Described as a cross between Fantasia and Mary J. Blige, Rounds has to be the favorite performance and the high vote getter out of tonight's batch of performances. It was extremely fitting that her performance was the last one-no one will forget it for a long time. All in all, Rounds has to be very excited at her prospects for the competition, as Simon was even highly complimentary of her abilities and performance.
