American Idol Rock & Roll Night!

American Idol Top 4

K.M.
Tuesdays American Idol was chalk full of its usual surprises. Armed with a mentoring session with legendary guitarist Slash, the idols practiced their chosen songs and prepared for a dress rehearsal, but just moments before rehearsal, a stage sign broke loose from its devices and debris and glass fell to the famed floor.

The contestants had no opportunity to rehearse due to the stage equipment malfunctions, but as Ryan said; "The show must go on" and so it did...with a vengeance. First up, Adam Lambert. It was clear that Slash favored Adam. Slash was in awe of Adam's vocal range and Adam in awe of Slash's illustrious presence.

What more can we say about Adam Lambert? He's on his way to 'Rock God' status and we're having a blast riding along! Adam blew us away tonight with his choice in song. In the past seven years, Idol wannabe's have never attempted to take on a song like "Wanna Whole Lotta Love" from Led Zeppelin. We thought Adam's choice of Queen in a prior episode was daring, but this was just insanity!

Robert Plant's vocals are infamous and taking on any Led Zeppelin song is a sure fire way to ruin a chance at superstardom. However, for Adam not so much. "Wanna Whole Lotta Love" was a hit. Every note was spot on and his attitude on stage was that of unrestrained rebellion. As always, Adam looked amazing in tight leather and teal eye liner with his signature spiked hair and tall stature. Bottom line? We loved it!

Allison Ireheta took on the Janis Joplin tune "Cry Baby". This girl can sing! Doesn't she seem to get better every week? She's just a kid, but she sings with the emotion of someone much older. Donning leather attire and hair extensions, Allison looked like a rock star.

In addition to a solo performance for each contestant, Idol changed up the rules a bit and paired two idols together for a duet performance. Danny Gokey and Kris Allen were the first duet to grace the stage. They chose "Renegade" by STYX and killed it! Danny was a power force and Kris showed us he can bring it and bring it he did.

Next on the agenda was Kris Allen's solo. Kris sang the classic Beatles song; "Come Together". He did an adequate job, but it fell short in comparison to Adam and Allison. It lacked the excitement this song deserves. The public love Kris, especially the girls because let's face it; he's a cutie patootie, but this performance was a letdown.

Danny was next in line for his solo performance and took on the classic "Dream On", by Aerosmith. He started a bit slow and and pretty soon, the struggle in his voice came to the surface. His performance felt forced, like he was trying too hard and it showed. Overall Danny's performance was mediocre. The infamous end note that Tyler belts out so effortlessly, proved to be Danny's weakest point. It was an ear piercing, ragged scream, much like one might hear coming from a murder victim. Danny is talented that's for sure, but this week, it just didn't work and he may be on the chopping block tomorrow night.

Adam Lambert and Allison Ireheta were up next for the duo performance. "Slow Ride" by Foghat is another classic that few have dared to take on. Adam and Allison worked so well together, that the judges tried to persuade them to do a joint project once Idol is over. They've got great chemistry and Allison handled herself so well, she may just see another week. Bravo you two, we loved it.

Tonight's show was sensational. We finally had the pleasure of a true Rock & Roll show and it measured up nicely. Tune in tomorrow for the elimination. The scheduled entertainment? Idol's Daughtry and our own Paula Abdul will perform her new single. Until next week, I bid you ado.

Love the updates every week Kim! It's been a great season so far. They are all good, and I think these final four are ALL on their way to recording careers. :-)
