American Idol Season 7 Review

Wendy Alli
The long anticipated new season of American Idol aired tonight on Fox. The show was the talk of the day around Florida as viewers anxiously awaited the 8:00 P.M. airing of season seven, wondering what will be in store for us this season. Who and what will be the most talked about on Wednesday? Here is my analysis.

It is a toss up between Benjamin Haar, presented as "Jabba the Hutt" and Alexis, deemed "Philly's Scariest Woman." Alexis, the glitter-faced 23 year old from Allentown, PA made mentions of Janis Joplin & Pat Benatar. Simon Cowell shared his opinion on Alexis' version of "Somebody to Love" quoting, "A little possessed to me." Later on, after rejection from Simon, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, the 23-year-old flipped the bird, bent over and grabbed her butt cheeks and said, "If I could legally moon you, I would." directing her comment toward Simon Cowell.

Benjamin Haar, a.k.a. "Jabba," never really had a chance to sing. Donning a cape to hide his costume, when removed, a red skirt-like garb was worn underneath revealing Haar's apelike chest hair. It was overpowering to Paula Abdul. Paula merely mentioned getting rid of the hair and Haar was immediately out the door and on his way for a chest wax. He returned later on for his chance to Hollywood but didn't receive a golden ticket. Unfortunately we got to see a little more than we wanted to.

Another possible mention on Wednesday will be the really creepy guy named Paul. He was singing some sort of stalking song and directed it toward Paula. The look on that guy's eyes was scary enough, but the lyrics made it even worse. If I were Paula Abdul, I would have had security escort him out of the door a lot sooner.

As for the best singer on the first episode of American Idol season seven, I give my vote to Kristy Lee Cook, 23 of Selma, Oregon. She really belted out "Amazing Grace," receiving great reviews from Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

I really would have liked to see a little more of Ryan Seacrest. It was kind of a disappointment that there was not much interaction with him. I think his personality adds a lot more to the show. I cannot wait to see what tomorrow night's show has to offer.
