American Idol Season 8

Not Good as the Years Before

Denise
I don't know what it is, but American Idol has lost some of its appeal for me. I think the only exciting part of the show so far was auditioning people. During Hollywood week , I was noticing how few really good singers made it to that point. When they were choosing the final contestants, there were a couple that were good, that they just left behind.

Last night, elmination night was so stupid. Why bother saying the judges have an opportunity to save someone, when everyone knew that they weren't? Ryan Seacrest kept saying two people were going home, so why bother asking the judges if they were going to save one of them? I don't think Jasmine deserved to go home. Jorge to me was a toss up, because he admitted he didn't really know Michael Jackson's songs that well, and he was working on his English to diminish his accent(which to me was bizarre, since last week the judges said that nothing was wrong with his accent, after telling him to 'change' it so to speak!) Listening to him Tuesday, I could hear pretty bad diction.

I guess the wild card thing worked. Glad that was brought back. Anoop could have went home last night. I was glad he didn't, because he is one of the best male singers. That is something that they should have done each season. I hope they keep it in as long as the show lasts.

A fourth judge. I think in the beginning, they wanted to have a fourth judge. Kara DioGuardi, I have never heard of her before this year. She seems cool, I guess. Something different for season 8, anyway. So, who are the gems in season 8? Of the 11 contestants left, these are the winners.

Anoop Desai without a doubt is one of the best male singers. I mean, you can't compare him to Sanjaya or a typical Indian singer. If he only would have sang, "Rock With You", or another MJ song he would not have been in the bottom. He'll make it in the final four. If not, I'll be surprised.

Allison Iraheta reminds me of Kelly Clarkson. One of the best female singers this year, like Paula always says, she can sing the phonebook. She is another one I think will be in the final four.

Lil Rounds does sound like Fantasia and Mary J. Blige. Provided she watches what she picks to sing, she too should be in the final four. She is the second of three best female singers.

Danny Gokey, that dude has 'it'. If he isn't in the final four I will be surprised. He is the second of the three best male singers.

Alexis Grace is very, very unique. I love her voice, and I sincerely hope she stays in as long as she can. The final of the best female singers.

Adam Lambert is kind of like a' typical' singer. When you think of rock singers, how they sing, what they wear, the total 'look' that would be him in a nutshell. He can sing, but It annoys me when he 'screeches' . Like I said though, it's typical of what the rock singers did in the '80's. I don't think he's necessarily the best singer, but he's got the total package, and he's cute, so he's bound to stay in this competition a long time.

If the judges save anyone, it will probably be Adam, Danny, Micheal Sarver, Lil, Alexis or Allison.(Anoop got the Wild Card, so if he messes up again, I don't think the judges will save him.) Of the ones mentioned, I must say that I think only Micheal would hit the bottom-if America so chooses. Alexis, Allison, Lil, Danny and Adam should sail right through this competition. The other contestants can sing, but are not great. My love for American Idol has turned to 'like' for this season. It must be something in the air. You'd think after seven seasons, people would know what songs to pick. When they goof up like that, it's like they have never watched the show at all. How many times do the judges have to tell them to pick the right songs?

The week all the contestants pick the right song to sing, is when my love for American Idol will return.
