American Idol Season 8: Bikini Girl Katrina Darnell and Kara DioGuardi Extend Cat Fight

First the disclaimer: I don't find Pink Bikini Girl Katrina Darnell all that hot, pretty or cute. Having said that, why does new judge Kara DioGuardi have to continue to behave ever so catty toward the girl (who can actually sing a bit)? I mean, do we not get a fair share of Paula Abdul swooning over two or three male contestants every season, regardless of their talent level? Fair is fair then, right? If Randy and Simon want to keep letting Bikini Girl through for a few more weeks (after all, 104 contestants got through yesterday), why shouldn't they be allowed?

This time though, Kara decided not to try to up stage the would-be Idol by holding the type of catty sing-off she had in a past show. Instead, DioGuardi took a different route, starting her critique with a slight compliment on Katrina's singing ability, before rapidly deteriorating it into an attack on the pop-tartish Darnell. When Simon and Randy poked fun at Kara's obvious cattiness, the new judge solicited the aid of fellow female judge Paula Abdul. Abdul, who sheepishly agreed with DioGuardi, must have been remembering all the male contestants she goes gaga over each season.

All of that aside, Bikini Girl, might be content with strutting her stuff, kissing Ryan Seacrest and getting into it with Kara, during her 15 minutes of fame, but she is one ditzy girl if she thinks she has a shot at being the next American Idol. Last I heard, that requires a bit of voting by the female population of this country, which vote she is currently far from courting. In the end though, Katrina had enough (or is it showed enough) to make it through.

Also making it through were, David Osmond (of the fame Osmond singing clan: http://davidosmondidol.com/index.html) and Danny Gokey (http://www.poptower.com/tv/american-idol/danny-gokey.htm), the singer who recently lost his wife bur who continues to carry on. Rose Flack, the 17 year old high school student who has lost both of her mom and dad, also made it through, despite a case of nerves during prior to her performance. And much to Simon's objection Norman Gentle (aka Nick Mitchell) also showed enough talent to live to sing another day. But than again, who did not make it through last nights show?
