'American Idol' Season 9 Contestant Crystal Bowersox Could Be Disqualified from Competition Tonight

If Bowersox is Unable to Perform Wednesday Night, the Show Must Go On

Crystal Bowersox, the American Idol contestant who was unable to perform Tuesday night, is apparently still not a go for Wednesday night's live show either. Now there's talk that she could possible be disqualified from the competition.

On Tuesday night, Idol host Ryan Seacrist told viewers that Bowersox was in the hospital. No explanation was given for why Bowersox was hospitalized, but Us Magazine reported that Bowersox was suffering from diabetes complications.

A last minute switcheroo had the Top 10 Boys performing last night while Bowersox recovered, giving the Top 10 Girls the night off. But now, according to Entertainment Weekly ,if Bowersox's doctors don't clear her for tonight's live performance episode, she could possibly be disqualified from the American Idol competition altogether.

In a transcript posted on EW's website American Idol's executive producer, Ken Warrick, told host Ryan Seacrist that if Bowersox is disqualified, then only one other woman would be voted off the show this week. In the transcript, there is not a description of what Bowersox's exact medical ailment is.

If she were to be disqualified, its would be a huge blow for the 24 year old singer, who has already charmed audiences with her powerful voice. Fans have also gotten a glimpse into Bowersox's personal life and have seen pictures and footage of her baby boy.

And while Bowersox's Facebook fan page is filled with well wishes from friends and fans, some of her former Idol competitors are also thinking about her. One of last week's eliminated contestants, Janell Wheeler, posted on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, "My prayers are with Crystal".

Indeed it seems to be down to the wire as to whether Crystal Bowersox will perform tonight or be forced to forfeit her dream of competing in Season 9 of American Idol.

Of course, could the talk of possibly eliminating Bowersox from American Idol just be a way to stir up buzz for Wednesday night's show? Unfortunately, there really doesn't seem to be any other fair way for Idol producers to handle the situation. If Bowersox can't perform at tonight's show, there's no other way to compare her to the other girl's who will be singing tonight.

And as they say in Hollywood, the show must go on....

Anyone ever heard of reasonable accommodation of the disabled?

Wanta know what I think? This is a bad thought. I think Bowersox got a contract and this is her way out of Idol. Dirty little thought, hunh?

It would be a shame, but I would think her health is more important than Idol.
