American Idol - Season Six

I don't even know where to begin. This season of American Idol has been really disappointing to me. Don't get me wrong; I love the competition, and of course; I love Simon, but what was America listening too? Why did they let Sanjaya go on so long? He was terrible. So many good vocalists were sent home to keep him in the competition; for what? They had to know that eventually he would have to go. HE CAN'T SING!!! It was ridiculous! It was bad enough that America voted for him, but what's worse is that he began to think he could basically do whatever he wanted and stay in the running. He forgot about singing and just tried to be as outrageous as he could be. It was all about his hair! It was a joke. Haley should have been gone long before she was voted off. It was pretty obvious she wasn't going to make it through. If this is what we are going to see in each upcoming season, then maybe the vote ought to be taken out of America's hands.

I was really disappointed to see Melinda go last week. She is truly a gifted vocalist, who can sing any gendre of music. Blake can sing and his unusual style probably appeals to the young, but Melinda deserves to be in his place. She was consistently good every week. I'm sure we will be hearing her on the radio real soon. We will also be hearing from Lakeisha also. She can belt out a tune with the best of them.

My choice of the two remaining contestants is Jordan. She is amazing. While Melinda was a much more established vocalist with a good bit of experience from her days as a backup singer, Jordan is pure, raw talent at 17 years of age. She also has the ability to sing anything and make it believable to the listener.

I also want to comment on the Idol Gives Back Charity Event. What a great show for such a great cause. I was impressed with the lineup of actors and artists who made appearances. My absolute favorites though were Celine Dion and the virtual Elvis performance and Josh Groban performing with the African Children's Choir. Josh Groban is such a great vocalist and I am a big fan. I was also impressed with the video clips of Ryan and Simon in Africa with all the sick people they visited.

This is the last week of this season of American Idol. Tonight, Jordan and Blake will sing it out to see who will become the 6th American Idol and tomorrow night we will know the results. I hope Season 7 will be a season focused on the music and not on outrageous antics and hairdos. It really is a singing competition.
