When Simon Cowell left after season nine of American Idol, there was doubt whether the new season would survive without him. There's a new dynamic with the new judge panel. Steven Tyler and his unique way of using imaginative descriptive words along with his leering expressions has managed to energize American Idol. Jennifer Lopez, besides showing off her stylish looks offers superb professional advice, especially after she recovered emotionally from having to tell contestants they have to go home. Randy Jackson has comfortably taken a firm hand in the long standing lead judge seat, but his, "dogs," still remain.
The final thirteen American Idol contestants opened tonight's show on March 10th with a medley of Michael Jackson songs. Most of these season ten contestants have more talent and personality than previously seen in the last few seasons. It should be an interesting competition as they become more comfortable on stage.
Adam Lambert, the last outstanding American Idol singer offered a guest appearance singing on the top thirteen vote eviction show, March 10th, 2011, and did a great performance of his unplugged version of his hit song, "Aftermath." P Diddy revved up the stage with his unique exuberance singing his latest song. Still the stage belonged to the thirteen American Idol contestants left standing in the tenth season, waiting to see who would be sent home. Ryan Seacrest reported there were thirty million votes the previous night from fans selecting the top twelve.
Already there are a few contestants who stand out, besides my favorite, Jacob Lusk. Jacob Lusk has an exuberant spirit besides carrying a powerful, gospel/soul voice, sounding like the late Luther Vandross. Other male contestants are, James Durbin. James Durbin is a twenty-two year old man, diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome, a disease that exhibits vocal and physical tics. When James Durbin sings, his powerful rock pipes wipe out any hint of the disease symptoms. Scotty McCreery has a perfect country sound, proving it by singing an on spot rendition of a Garth Brooks song. Paul McDonald has a pleasant quirkiness in his voice and moves, somewhat compared to Rod Stewart's pipes. Casey Abrams sang a Joe Cocker song and nailed it. They join Stefano Langone, one of the three wild card picks with his smooth Latin sound, showing it excellently with a Stevie Wonder song.
The girls are great competition for the boys. Thia Megia, at sixteen years old amazed everyone with her rendition of the song, "Smile." Karen Rodriquez, sang a great version of the late Serena's song, "I Can Fall In Love." Haley Reinhart sang a country song by LeAnn Rimes, which fit her voice and talent. Naima Adedapo and Ashton Jones were also wild card picks, singing Rihanna and Diana Ross songs. Pia Toscano hit it out of the ball park with her version of, "All By Myself." Lauren Alaina ends the group of ladies, also singing an excellent country song.
My opinion is that the male contestants of American Idol season ten are stronger but they have a tough female competition this year. American Idol has hit it's strive again. Tonight being the voting result show, one contestant had to go home. The judges had the choice to use a save but decided to send, Ashton Jones, home. Ashton received the lowest votes this round and she was also a wild card save the previous week.
American Idol season ten has also chosen to reveal more of the backstage activities the contestants are involved in, and share more of their personal back stories. A good choice in my opinion, making the American Idol cast more personable, sorely lacking in the previous season.
American Idol season ten will continue on Wednesdays with the vote result show on Thursdays.

Post a CommentI liked last week's performances better than this week's, but the birth-year night is usually a dud. Great article, as usual . . . what's funny is I used a similar headline in my article on whether "Charie's Angel's" new cast will fly : ).
Great review Claire.
I'm loving the show this year. Great report!
Good report. I haven't watched any of this season.
I enjoy this paticular show very much and I agreed with all you wrote...:-)
I agree, Claire, that this is a stand-out year on American Idol. I hadn't watched it in a number of years but, between the great new judges' chemistry and the wonderful talent, I am enjoying Season 10.
It's hard to say goodbye to them one by one until there is just One! But, alas, there can only be one American Idol, cheers :) P.S. I'm enjoying American Idol this season - w/o Simon!
I don't watch the show - but your report is very good
Since I've already said this before, I've trained my imaginary parrot to say this: "American Idol" is a "Gong Show" rip off. To greatly premise a show on sap stories and personalities is disgraceful! I want a Ritz Cracker.
