American Idol Shocker! Michael Johns Shown No Compassion

Sally Albright
This week American Idol hosted their "American Idol Gives Back" with celebrities galore. From Hannah Montana to Billy Crystal the stars came out last night to help American Idol raise money for charity. Last year American Idol was very generous, not just raising money for charity but, allowing all of the contestants to stay another week. This year American Idol hasn't been so generous sending Michael Johns home after receiving the least amount of votes this week. But did America get it right?

Michael Johns started his journey on American Idol with a strong audition. His vocal talent was unique and I felt that he would make it far on the show. After making it to the top 12 though Michael Johns was off to a rocky start. American Idol judges criticized him for not picking the right songs to showcase his vocal talents. Then things began to change and Michael Johns rocked the stage week after week winning compliments from the judges. Michael Johns was able to blow the judges and American Idol viewers away by singing a Queen song, something not easy to pull off just ask Carly Smithson. It appeared that Michael Johns was in it to win it. That is until he tried to tackle the classic Aerosmith song "Dream On" this week on Idol.

Michael Johns could not handle "Dream On", a very ambitious song choice for an American Idol contestant, and ended up disappointing judges and fans alike. But was it really the worst performance of the night? Did American Idol viewers have their TV sets turned off during Brooke White's performance? While I have enjoyed Brooke White I have to admit that her performances have been lacking as of the past two weeks. And don't get me started on Kristy Lee Cook. No surprise to see her safe for another week on American Idol. After all if people would vote for her after her "Eight Days a Week" performance, as well as her other "put me to sleep" performances on American Idol, why not vote for her again this week? Still, the fact remains that Michael Johns will no longer grace the stage on American Idol.

Just seven contestants remain all hoping to become the next American Idol. Who will win? Syesha Mercado? David Archuleta? Jason Castro? David Cook? Brooke White? Kristy Lee Cook? Or Carly Smithson? It's up to you to decide America. If it were up to me we would see David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado, and David Cook would be your top three American Idol finalists. My prediction as far as the winner of American Idol is much harder to decide. After all before tonight's result show I had Michael Johns in David Cook's spot on the top three. Will one of my top three get kicked off of American Idol next week? Stay tuned and find out. Hopefully I am right and hopefully America will get it right and send Kristy Lee back home. As far as Michael Johns, I'm not too worried. I have no doubt that Michael will see much success in his future as a recording artist. I for one would pay to hear him sing regardless of his status as an American Idol loser.

I just about fell out of my chair when Michael Johns got voted off. What were people thinking????? ;-)

David Cook !!! He probably won't win b/c he doesn't have the "apple pie" appeal that David Archuleta does ... but my vote goes to Cook :D

I hate to admit I don't even know which one he was. I just haven't been able to get into the show this year. However, I appreciated your perspective very much.
