American Idol: Siobhan Magnus- the Best Singer?

Crystal Bowersox rocked the crowd last week as the first performer. Crystal got a thumbs u[p from all judges. But Siobhan Magnus was last and she was phenomenal giving the performance of a lifetime.

How did the judges react to Siobhan? They were stunned to say the least. Randy started by saying, "It was dope. You slayed it. I loved it." Then Ellen who was obviously overwhelmed could only manage a I loved it. Then Kara followed suit and asked Siobhan " How did you hit that note?" But the real test was Simon who impeccably spoke "You are interesting and very,very talented."

Last week the judges said she needed to take on bigger songs, well that is exactly what Siobhan did- an Aretha Franklin song. It doesn't get any bigger. But what a performance it was very memorable.

It also shook the competition to its core as other singers were obviously happy she was last, because no one gave a performance that was close. Siobhan hit a huge note and held it, which Kara commented. No one mentioned the fact she had soul, which is huge coming from a 19 year-old white girl from Cape Cad Massachusetts who until recently was sporting a Mohawk haircut.

Who is Siobhan Magnus ?

Siobhan Magnus started singing when she was 9, which is the reason that she was able to crank up the competition to a new level. She presently sings in a band called Lunar Valve.

She does glass blowing as a hobby, which she claims relaxes her. She is truly an artist that has a huge creative side to her personality. I believe that gives her a slight edge over Crystal Bowersox whom I believe is in another league also. But Crystal lacks the over the top creative talent that Siobhan brings to the contest.

Siobhan loves horror movies which is interesting in that she seems to be so lovable and innocent. I don't believe for a minute that any 19 year-old girl in the USA is innocent mind you, but she comes across that way.

Next week everyone will expect Siobhan to do something remarkable again, but I believe she will do something that she loves and can make her own. It could be dynamic or it could be understated but it will be remarkable.
