American Idol Songs of Inspiration - Crystal Bowersox is Coming People-Get Ready!

Can we talk about American Idol's Crystal Bowersox for a minute? It's no secret that Crystal Bowersox is favored to win on American Idol this season and her performance of "People Get Ready" simply blew the other contestants out of the water tonight. American Idol contestants are always mentored and encouraged to make the songs they perform their own and to put themselves into the music. Tonight Bowersox really showed her competitors how it's done.

At this point in time, after seeing Crystal's rendition of "People Get Ready", I have to imagine that record labels are devising a strategy for signing her after American Idol wraps for the season. Bowersox has been a strong contender all along and the audience has come to expect amazing performances from her. Her performance on American Idol tonight truly set her apart and demonstrated that she is in a league of her own. Every once in awhile a performer emerges that has that special something. Crystal Bowersox is that performer.

Only at the end of Bowersox's performance was it abundantly clear how much of a risk she had taken when singing "People Get Ready" for songs of inspiration week on Idol. Obviously it's important for American Idol contestants to sing a song that is emotionally significant for them so that it conveys to the audience. Crystal Bowersox couldn't have been much more emotionally connected to her song tonight and the praise bestowed upon her by the American Idol judges was nothing short of required. When a performer risks losing control of their emotions, it stirs a profound reaction amongst those in the audience. It doesn't just give the performance an edge when it happens during a competition-it lends a certain credibility to the artist performing, leaving them completely vulnerable if they can't pull it off. It's an all or nothing kind of thing-go big or go home.

I hope that Crystal Bowersox is ready. She is about to embark on the ride of a lifetime. At this point, it stands to reason that winning or losing is irrelevant for Bowersox. She has showcased her talent, developed a fan base, and demonstrated that she has that special something. Many performers practice, work tirelessly to hone their craft, and make the right connections. Once in awhile a performer comes along who has a little something extra in their arsenal. When you add that unique quality to the mix with the hard work and the practice, it can't be beat. Crystal Bowersox is coming - People Get Ready.
