American Idol: Talent or Just Eye Candy?

Have you noticed anything odd about American Idol contestant Becky O'Donohue? Perhaps it's no coincidence that this Idol looks the part of a Playboy bunny but would likely make a nice co-partner in a duet with Miss Piggy (It's Not Easy Being Green). What if this girl wasn't so strikingly gorgeous? If her uncanny resemblance to the "Hulk's wife" was unmistakable, would she have made it this far?

I understand all the components that make up the "Idol" persona - stage presence, the likability factor, singing talent, etc. O'Donohue possesses magnetic stage presence and is slightly likable in that "over-acted sex-kitten" kind of way - I'll at least give her that.

Although O'Donohue indulges in sipping green tea before each performance, there's still a giant lack in the talent category that can't be denied. I can't help but think that if the judges had worn blindfolds during the auditions - Becky would still be chilllin' back in Dobbs Ferry, New York with her laryngitis-stricken bombshell twin.

In my opinion, there were many in the audition phase of Idol that superseded O'Donohue's talent. In a contest which gauges both "it-factor" and skill, it seems a slap in the face to the other top contestants with real vocal prowess to be plopped aside someone so completely deprived of trilling talent.

Haven't Madonna and Britney Spears already filled the job openings for "talentless hotties" in the entertainment industry? No ill-will meant, just some common-sense advice to "stick with your strengths." Perhaps a brimming future in lingerie modeling, Becky?
