American Idol Top 10 Results Show Feat. Reuben Studdard, Usher & Diddy Plus Didi Benami is Now Gone

Clash of the Titans & Three Musical Guest Stars Promote Their Wares on Idol as Another One Says Goodbye

The show opened with a cross promotion of clips from Tuesday night's performances and judges critiques for the upcoming 3-D movie Clash of the Titans starring Sam Worthington from Avatar. You never know how the results show will start out each week. Just like you'll never know who is going home till they announce it at the very end of the show. That was how it was like Wednesday night on American Idol's Top 10 Results Show. Thankfully we were spared of the "Up With People-esque" group performance by the Top 10. Three musical guests were slated, so to start things off immediately the Velvet Teddy Bear from Season 2 himself, the winner of American Idol that year, Reuben Studdard, gave a soulful rendition from his latest single "Don't Make 'Em Like U No More." I always enjoy seeing Reuben come back on the show. He has such a great voice. Afterward, Ryan chatted with him for a moment. Reuben is a vegan now and has lost a substantial amount of weight. He'll be touring soon with his fellow finalist from Season 2 Runner-Up, Clay Aiken. Michael Lynche joined Reuben center stage since the two are such big burly guys.

As always like clockwork every week there was the Ford music video by the Top 10. It was set to the song from the 1970's "Kung Fu Fighting." I love the song, but not this week's commercial. Ryan dragged out the results with a lot of unnecessary chatter that included a bit with Andrew Garcia's mom once again. It was fine after her son's performance Tuesday night, but enough already. The cast of the soon to be released film Clash of the Titans were on the red carpet for their premiere to wish the finalists "Good Luck." Now the results were about to start. No absolute surprise whatsoever Lee Dewyze was safe after his stellar performance of "Treat Her Like a Lady" by Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose. Casey James and 16-year-old Aaron Kelly were also safe. Siobhan Magnus and Katie Stevens awaited their fate. Katie Stevens was the first to be sent to the Bottom 2 area.

Before Usher performed, Ryan announced the music theme for the Top 9 next week will be the songs by Lennon/McCartney. This theme was done for the first time in Season 7. Personally I think this will be a theme that'll finally work for just about all of the finalists. Ryan gushed over a celebrity in the audience and introduced him to the television audience. It was Justin Bieber, who has the #1 album in the country. Justin talked about being mentored by Usher, which was a perfect way to introduce him. It was obvious he sang with the aid of auto-tuning, which I loathe hearing. The performance ended immediately into a commercial break. No chatting time with Ryan, even though he was the mentor Tuesday Night.

Now it was the bottom row of finalists who would learn who was safe and who would be joining Katie Stevens on the other side of the stage. Didi Benami was called on first and immediately informed she was in the bottom 2. No surprise there after her botched performance on Tuesday. R&B and soul are not her forte whatsoever. Michael Lynche was asked to join Ryan. You could hear the crowd vocalize their disappointment assuming he was in the bottom 2. Ryan faked him out by saying he was safe. Finally they made it interesting for a change.

Michael showed off his displeasure with the scare by picking Ryan up like a little baby. That was a great moment. Next, Crystal was deemed safe as that was no earth shattering surprise. Tim Urban and Andrew Garcia were the two left. One of them would make up the bottom three. Before it was announced Ryan wanted to get the record straight about Tim laughing and smiling at the judges and Kara's uptightness over it. Tim explained very sincerely he doesn't want to bring himself down because he enjoys being on the show and loves performing. The audience gave Tim Urban a rousing applause for that statement. Needless to say he was sent for the third consecutive week to the Bottom 3. Katie was sent back to safety first. Tim and Didi were in the bottom 2.

Diddy was the third and final musical guest star left to perform. Ryan announced it was Diddy's first time ever on American Idol. He sang his latest single "Hello (Good Morning)". I must say I truly enjoyed his performance even more so than Usher's. At least Diddy spoke briefly with Ryan afterward. He mentioned his song is now available on iTunes. His upcoming album Last Train to Paris will be released on June 22nd. The moment everyone had been waiting for was at hand. The person who would be leaving was Didi Benami. Teflon Tim, the nickname he's been dubbed with now in the media, has made it another week. I must say the show is starting to get a little bit more interesting. I'm relieved the judges did not use the save on Didi. She was too emotionally wrought to handle the overall challenges and judges' criticisms that make-up the show. No mentor or musical guests were announced for next week. I read Paul McCartney recently performed at the Hollywood Bowl and is on tour. It could happen.

Great review!!! I am so sick of the bickering banter between Ryan and Simon, though. Enough already!!! Glad to see Didi go home. I am not ready to say good bye to Tim just yet!!

Diddy's performance was a much better production than Usher's, which was just a sloppy mishmash of too much stuff. I liked both songs, though. I will miss Didi and I loved hearing her "Rhiannon" again, but I guess she just wasn't right for the show. She was kind of the Brooke White of Season 9.

You know, I thought Usher did a pretty good job, I never followed him before. Cheers :)

Thanks for the recap! My tivo cut out right before I found out if Didi was going to be saved or not, though I did sort of figure she would be going home..
