American Idol Top 12: Who Got Kicked Off? Why I'm Upset

Sally Albright
I was anxiously awaiting the results on Wednesday night as the top 12 American Idol finalists would be narrowed down to just 11 contestants. I had a certain contestant in mind who I thought for sure would be sent home. Unfortunately, I was wrong.

Viewers of American Idol were treated to 12 performances of Lennon/McCartney songs by the Idol contestants on Tuesday night before casting their vote for their favorite Idol. There were a few performances that were lacking which ultimately led Syesha Mercado, David Hernandez, and KristyLee Cook onto the stage as the bottom three on Wednesday night's American Idol results show. The appearance of these three Idol contestants on the stage Wednesday night came as no surprise though their performances weren't the only ones which were subpar. Amanda Overmyer appears to get by week after week because she stands out from the rest. However her voice and vocal range are limited and I find that it won't be long until American Idol viewers grow tired of the rockers unique voice. Ramiele Malubay, an Idol contestant whose racy photos appeared online, also gave a poor performance due to poor song choice. Michael Johns, one of the top male singers, sang "Across the Universe" in a rather mediocre performance on Tuesday night's Idol. However these Idol contestants were spared due to their popularity with American Idol viewers.

When it came time to find out who would go home and who was safe I had no doubt in my mind that Syesha Mercado would go on to next week's American Idol. However what happened next was quite a shock. David Hernandez, the American Idol contestant labeled as a former stripper, was sent home while Kristy Lee Cook was allowed to remain on Idol. Anyone who watched Kristy Lee Cook's performance on American Idol Tuesday night has to agree that her performance was the worst of the night. Why the voting results don't match this fact is a mystery to me. I just hope that we don't have another Sanjaya on our hands, who by the way was spotted in the audience on American Idol Wednesday night.

Another week goes by and the competition is just going to get tougher. If I were to make a American Idol cast off prediction for next week, I'd say that Kristy Lee Cook will go home. Otherwise Syesha may be in trouble. Of course, as with this week's Idol, who gets voted off isn't always predictable.

So did the world survive the outcome? Apparently, since this was a year ago. So what is the purpose? To find the next guy who can sing "put your blue jeans back on hollywoods....not america" like 999 times over and over and call it a song? MINDLESS!

It was only a matter of time before David Hernandez was booted off ... but yes he should have been the one to go last night.
