American Idol Top 12 Perform Lennon McCartney Songbook

The top 12 American Idol contestants covered the Fab Four Tuesday night. Producers of the show have been trying to get the rights to perform the songs for the last 6 years! It finally happened. The idols tried their best perform tunes from the Lennon McCartney songbook! It was quite an interesting show, from Simon calling the songs boring, to Kim Kardashian in the audience.

Syesha Mercado performed first. She performed a soulful rendition of Got to Get You into My Life. Randy claimed it started pitchy but got better. She gave a decent performance but it could have been better. Simon thought it was a great choice for her! Chikezie Performed a rocked out version of She's a Woman! Even Simon Cowell enjoyed it!

Ramiele performed In My Life. She gave a decent performance and had the audience swaying their hands back and forth. The performance was very safe though. She really didn't do anything special with the song. Simon claimed he expected more from her. Jason Castro performed If I fell. It wasn't that good. He could have done a lot better. His falsetto on the song was ridiculous.

Carly performed Come Together. She gave a killer performance. She was strong and confidence. Andy even said there wasn't a note out of tune. Simon even compared her to Kelly Clarkson! Next up was David Cook. He performed Eleanor Rigby. His performance really soared when he hit the chorus.

Brooke gave a stunning performance of Let It Be. She should have really shined with the theme of the night. She still delivered the song with conviction. Simon thought it was one of the best performances of the night. David Hernandez performed I Saw Standing There. Randy complained that he over performed the song. Paula Abdul had the same complaint. Simon claimed it was corny going on desperate.

Harley riding Amanda performed You Can't do that. She screamed throughout the performance. Some may like her vocal style though. Randy had nothing but praise for her. Simon claimed it was a bit "shouty", but also said she was a "breath of fresh air." Next, Michael Johns gave a lackluster performance of Across the Universe. He didn't even come close to doing the song justice. The next contestant wasn't much better.

Kristy Lee gave a ghastly performance of 8 Days a week. Her attempt at a country version didn't quite work. The show finished with David Archuleta. This was one of the most anticipated performances of the night considering he already did an amazing rendition of Lennon's Imagine. He performed We Can Work It Out. It wasn't his best performance, and he forgot some of the words but it was still good. He has the voice of Clay Aiken without the annoying personality. Simon thought the song was a mess!
