'American Idol' Top 13 Recap: How Many Favorite Finalists Do You Have?

James Durbin, Pia Toscano, and Casey Abrams Gave Viewers Wow Performances

"American Idol" airs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 8/7c FOX

The night began with us hearing that famous word "pitchy". And boy, did we hear pitch problems last night. We didn't need judges to tell us what was pitchy and what wasn't. Viewers heard it all on their own.

Ryan Seacrest was laughing as he mocked Paul McDonald's dance moves. It was as humorous as it was a telling move to remind McDonald that everything you do on stage could come back to haunt you. Did America get his dance moves?

"You look beautiful tonight." When finalists hear those words, they know something was not going right. We heard Lopez say this numerous times. The top 13 want to hear, "You sang beautiful tonight." Instead, Lopez was kind but truthful. They did look beautiful, only the song choices, pitch problems, and numerous other reasons stopped some of the performances from being stellar performances.

When you hear the judges say "It was a safe song," you might not have picked the right song. We are down to the top 13; it's time to wow the audience with every song!

Even though last night was a pretaped show, the finalists came out ready to sing their hearts out. To be honest, there are a few who are standing out because of their crazy ability to sing. James Durbin, Casey Abrams, Scotty McCreery, Stefano Langone and Pia Toscano also shined last night. This is a difficult season with so much talent.

Last nights WOW "Idol" performances: Casey Abrams, James Durbin, Pia Toscano and Stefano Langone, Scotty McCreery

Good performances: Thia Megia, Jacob Lusk, Lauren Alaina, and Naima Adedapo

Danger of going home: Haley Reinhard, Paul McDonald, Ashthon Jones or Karen Rodriguez

The Finalist Performances Recap:

* LAUREN ALAINA sang "Any Man of Mine" by Shania Twain - Lauren played it too safe with her song choice. Being a Shania Twain fan, I thought it was good but too close to the original.

* CASEY ABRAMS sang "With a Little Help From My Friends" by Joe Cocker. - Casey has a way of turning an old song into a song that we would love to hear on the radio. Not only did he have the crowd going crazy, we were right there with him. Right on, brother!

* ASHTHON JONES sang "When You Tell Me That You Love Me" by Diana Ross - Ashthon looked like Diana Ross. She also looked and acted like Diana Ross, which isn't a good thing when you are performing for "Idol." Unfortunately, it wasn't a wow performance we've seen from so many other finalists. It was just okay.

* PAUL McDONALD sang "Come Pick Me Up" by Ryan Adams. -- I love this guy. He has a voice that is distinct and all to himself. Unfortunately, I have to sadly say I just didn't understand all his movements. It was distracting and I thought his voice seemed to struggle to keep up with the music. All in all, I still like him but wonder if he lost votes last night.

* PIA TOSCANO sang "All By Myself" by Celine Dion. - If you were like me and scared that she was singing a Celine Dion song, we shouldn't have been. This girl rocked it out and Celine would have been proud. She can sing -- can she sing! If there was ever a contender for this competition, it's her.

* JAMES DURBIN sang "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney. - This guy is the full package. He gets on stage and acts like he's been there for years. Last night, he struggled a little with pitch, but overall, he was crazy good and I loved him!

* HALEY REINHARD sang "Blue" by LeAnn Rimes. - When I listened to her the first time, I thought she was going to struggle getting the votes. It was just okay for me. Yet, when I listened to her a second time, I fell in love with her yodeling voice. Even though Randy Jackson thought it was a little boring, after second thought, I loved it.

* JACOB LUSK sang "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly. - Jacob can sing with the best of them. Last night, it was just an okay performance. Nothing great to say, nothing bad. He has a voice that will be on the radio one day. For now, it's just okay.

* THIA MEGIA sang "Smile" by Michael Jackson. - I've been a Thia fan from day one. Last night she had some pitch problems. She sang softly, almost too softly. It wasn't a boring performance; just all right.

* STEFANO LANGONE sang "Lately" by Stevie Wonder. - I was ecstatic as I'm a Stevie Wonder fan. The song was a new song to me, but he sang it well. Was he as good as Casey or Pia?

* KAREN RODRIGUEZ sang "I Could Fall in Love" by Selena. - Karen has a amazing voice but she sang low notes and high notes that just sounded off. We kept waiting for her to wow us with her crazy good voice -- but it never happened. Bad choice of song for her I'm afraid. Although I think she could be in danger, I think she's safe for another week.

* SCOTTY McCREERY sang "The River" by Garth Brooks. - Let me just say, I loved his voice and he is a country star in the making. It doesn't matter what song he sings, it comes out with perfection. Country music fans are going to love him!

* NAIMA ADEDAPO sang "Umbrella" by Rihanna. - Stephen Tyler thought she was pitchy. That's good cause I did too. Her dance moves could get her on a dance show. Since this is a singing competition, I wonder if she should have focused on her singing since that wasn't so great. She has a great voice, but last night her song choice wasn't as good as the original.

Who do you think were the best singers Wednesday night on "American Idol?
