American Idol Top 20, Favorites, and Predictions

Drew Bush
For the last month that American Idol has been on, it has already been quite a ride. Everyone has had the chance to see the worst and best singers the world has to offer. Now, we are down to the top 20 people who will compete for the coveted title of American Idol. It is a matter of time before we will have the top 12 who will go through weeks of grueling competitions until the winner is announced sometime in May. Who will come out on top? As of right now, it is too soon to tell. This season brings with it an amazing amount of talent.

Season 9 Up to Par?

So how does this season shape up compared to past seasons? Personally, I think this season is turning out to be quite impressive. At first, I thought the show would lag behind past seasons because of the departing of Paula Abdul, but I have had a change of thought. Personally, I think Ellen Degeneres is a wonderful judge. She has some of the qualities that Paula had, one of them being that she gives the contestants a feeling of hope and encourages them. Also, she has quite the personality. Even though she is not a singer, she has a lot of experience in the performance arena and knows how it feels to be shot down time after time. She definitely has a lot to offer.

This season is like others in that it showcases the lives of the contestants in a way that we can relate. We go on this journey with them and by the end feel like we were with them the entire time.

February 25 Results

As of now, we have the top 20. I was somewhat disappointed with the results this past week when four people were voted off. For instance, I cannot understand why Tim Urban was kept on while Joe Munoz was kicked off. I really thought that Joe had a much better voice that Tim. I guess those little pre-teen girls were clogging up the lines again. Oh well. As for the other three contestants that were knocked off, well, I did agree with the casting off of Tyler Grady. His voice was just not up to par with the other contestants. I was a little disappointed with the demise of Janell Wheeler and Ashley Rodriguez, but some of the other women contestants do have more unique qualities and voices than these two did.

American Idol Favorites and Predictions:

So, who are my favorites so far? The following is a list of my top 10 current favorites (five guys and five girls). This list may change as time goes on. These are not in any particular order (in other words, the first person listed is not necessarily my first choice). As of right now, these are the contestants that I think have the best chance of making it top the top 12:

Crystal Bowersox

Andrew Garcia

Aaron Kelly

Lacey Brown

Lee Dewyze

Katie Stevens

Alex Lambert

Lilly Scott

Michael Lynche

Michelle Delamor

There are quite a few really young people in the competition this year. There are currently 6 people that are 19 or younger (two of which are just 16 years old and another that is just 17). Haeley Vaughn and Aaron Kelly may only be 16, but they have very strong voices which may very well carry them all the way to the top 12. Katie Stevens is just 17 years old and has a voice that sounds like it is coming from a 25 or 30 year old. We definitely have to keep an eye on the young ones this season.

Now, the question is who do I think will be kicked off over the next week or two? Here is my list of people who stand the highest chance of being sacked:

Tim Urban

John Park

Todrick Hall

Haeley Vaughn

Katelyn Epperly

Can I make a prediction on who will be the next American Idol? No, it is just too soon. There are just too many great singers competing against each other.

I think Ellen was nervous at first but seems to be doing well now. I haven't really picked faves for the season yet
