"American Idol" Viewers Send Paul McDonald Home

Renee Bagley
Over 53 million votes were counted last night. "American Idol" had one of the best themed nights yesterday with the songs from movies theme. Picking a bottom three best was very hard. However, someone always has to go home so my choices for bottom three are Stefano, Casey, and Paul. Yes, I know Casey was on my favorites list, but his performance was not good to me. These are my picks, and his song choice completely put him into another genre. But I knew fan votes would save him regardless. He is a true performer, but song choice is everything. His down fall, much like Paul's potential down fall - could be they go too quirky, too out there, but they are real. They will both have a hard time staying mainstream, which can be important when building a career- and actually making money.

Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson sang a duet of Clarkson's hit "Don't You Wanna Stay." Their voices compliment each other very well. It was a perfect duet and very intense and up tempo. That's always a good thing on the "Idol" stage where often overly slow songs are played. It was one of the best duets ever on the stage. And best of all that single just went platinum.

Rihanna performed "California King Bed" remaining behind in the shadows for a portion of the song. Finally she emerged and sat on the steps on the stage, facing fans. Rihanna kicks off her Loud tour on June 4 in Baltimore with J. Cole and Cee Lo Green.

Safe:
Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Casey Abrams, James Durbin, and finally Haley and Stefano.

Bottom 3:
Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone, and Paul McDonald made up the bottom three. Haley and Stefano were sent back to safety.

Who went home?

I was bummed to see Paul McDonald go home because I like his voice and how he performs. But I knew people wouldn't get him - the rose stitched zoot suit , quirky dancing, the James Blunt voice. Song choice is what it boiled down to for many fans. I hope he finds the right genre and has a career anyways..

Paul was too quirky to make it to the end, but I'm sad to see him go. However, you must admit that the Casey and Haley duet was the BEST one that American Idol has EVER had!
