American Idol Visits the Mile High City on Its Final Audition Stop

R.D. CASTLE
As the last city on American Idol's quest for the best singer in America, Idol made it's final pit stop in Denver, the city that gave us Chris Daughtry. While the Mile High city did give us some worthy contestants, none of them made me sit up and take notice.

Rather than give you the usual blow by blow, let's just say this last audition stop gave us the usual amount of losers, including a bikini boy, literally, and a guy who said he was mistaken for Jack Black all the time. Neither of the two mentioned here are going to Hollywood. But the show did give out 26 Golden Tickets.

Perhaps the most interesting performer of the night was Haely Vaughn, who told us her story about being born weeks premature, and her Dad passing away when she was 10. What made Haley stand out, was that as an African American, she chose a country song, and nailed it.

We also met Tori Kelly, who brought her little Sister, Hope, along, who proceeded to hand out her drawings of the judges to the panel. This week's guest judge was once again Victoria 'Posh Spice" Beckham. As the judges viewed the portraits, Tori, a 16 year old, convinced everyone, except Simon, that her voice was good enough for Hollywood.

Also of note was Mark Labiolo, who's Mom had run away with him when he was a child. Now reunited with Dad, and with a Son of his own, Mark can sing well enough to move on. The Golden Tickets also went to Kimberly Kerbow, a single Mom, and to Danielle Hayes, who performs with a cover band. We also saw Casey James advance, after the girls convinced him to take his shirt off.

The final Golden Ticket to talk about went to Nicci Nix, whose voice sounded like she just inhaled helium, until she sang. After flying 14,000 miles just to audition, she'll have to keep her bags packed for one more trip, to Hollywood.

The final audition show will be tonight on Idol, which will give us glimpses of some of the contestants we haven't seen yet, that already have Golden Tickets, from various stops along the tour. We'll probably see a few more of the wierdos too. Stay tuned.
