When "American Idol" hits the airwaves next Tuesday the seven remaining contestants will take on the music of the movies. As the Idols prepare for the show actor and director Quentin Tarantino will "assist" the singers as the celebrity guest mentor of the week.

Known as an actor and an award winning director Tarantino is not known for his singing skills so it is unsure as to exactly how Tarantino can aid the Idols in preparing for their performance on movie night.

Tuesday's appearance will mark a return to the show for Tarantino who in season three had appeared as a celebrity guest judge.

Tarantino has won Academy, Golden Globe, MTV Movie, and BAFTA (the British version of the Oscar) for his work as a movie director. Among his most popular film are "Pulp Fiction", "Reservoir Dogs", and "Kill Bill, Vol. 2". Tarantino also directed an episode of the popular crime scene show "CSI".

Quentin Tarantino may be a genius and a talented director, but an "American Idol" mentor? What were they thinking? There are far more talented movie people who actually write and perform movie soundtracks like Burt Bachrach, John Williams, and Kenny Loggins (some of whose music we may hear on Tuesday).

The results show on Wednesday continues the movie theme with performances by Miley Cyrus who will perform a song from the new "Hannah Montana" movie and "American Idol" alum and multi award winning singer and actor Jennifer Hudson whose performance of her new single "If This Isn't Love" was taped earlier in the season after one of the shows.

In other "American Idol" news there is a new "American Idol" game that is similar to the FOX show "Don't Forget the Lyrics" only in the Idol game the Idols sing the songs and the game player fills in the lyrics. The game is available on the "American Idol" website at www.americanidol.com.

Season five "American Idol" runner up Katherine McPhee combined her acting and singing skills with an appearance on "CSI: NY" this week. And fellow season five Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis is returning to Broadway in "Rock of Ages".
