American Idol: Week 8 Results

The top five singers on "American Idol" showed off their crooning abilities with songs from the Rat Pack era with a little mentoring help from Oscar Award winning actor Jamie Foxx. Based on the comments from the judges it was anybody's guess as to who might get sent home at the end of the show.

After the opening group sing-a-long host Ryan Seacrest began separating the singers into two groups. When the last singer was waiting - Adam - Seacrest asked Adam to choose which group he belonged in. Adam remained where he was standing until he was told where to stand - with the two at the bottom. Over 47 million votes were cast putting Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey at the top leaving Kris, Matt, and Adam in the bottom three; it was Adam's first visit in the bottom three.

Once Natalie Cole had performed "Something's Gotta' Give" and season 5 winner Taylor Hicks sang his new single "Seven Mile Breakdown" from his new album "The Distance", Ryan sent Kris Allen to join Allison and Danny. Hicks got the chance to do something on the Idol stage that he could not do when he was competing - play a guitar and his harmonica during the song.

Mentor Jamie Foxx also graced the Idol stage singing his chart topping hit "Blame It"

The final announcement of who will be eliminated is always filled with anxiety and anticipation perpetuated by dramatic pauses by Ryan Seacrest. This week was no exception. The twist came in whose name was called and the words that followed the pause. As Matt and Adam stood in the center of the stage with Ryan it was Adam whose name was called. During the long pause Adam glanced at Ryan and then lowered his head; then Adam heard Ryan say he was safe. It was Matt who after being saved two weeks ago would now be going home.

Each week fans hear how the singer' days are filled with photo shoots, rehearsals, and video tapings; but this past week the Idols made time for a little fun - fun that got WAY out offhand. Since Danny and Allison celebrated birthdays in the last week the group was intending on baking some birthday cake. The domestic chore soon escalated into a massive food fight that according to a bill read by Danny cost $6,000 to clean up.

Next week the final four will tackle rock and roll with the help of Guns'N'Roses guitarist Slash.
