American Idol Wild Card Picks Suck: No Kristen McNamara!

The Judges Make Some Mediocre Choices for Wild Card Show

After watching the results show last night, it is clear that the American public has a better sense of singers than that of the American Idol judges. I couldn't believe some of the choices for their Wild Card picks, many of whom I didn't even remember.

First of all, they chose to bring back Jasmine Murray, who sung a very bland, boring and off key version of "Love Song." The only thing she seems to have working for her is because she has a commercial "look." Yet I am baffled they were so harsh on Kristen McNamara, who sung an excellent version of Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" and even managed to make it her own and it was better than the original to boot!

Though the judges kept commenting on Kristen's lack of a "look" and how they "didn't really know what kind of an artist she would be." Although I'd have to hear more from her, she reminds me a bit of Alanis, and I think with the proper songs she could be a great recording artist.

Another one they brought back was Megan Joy Corkrey who I thought did a terrible job singing "Put Your Records On." She's a pretty girl, certainly, but man--listening to her was painful.

I was pleased that they're bringing back Anoop Desai at least, though they could have done without the drama queen extraordinaire, Tatiana Nicole Del Toro-an annoying girl with a pretty okay voice, but nothing spectacular. Let's face it: watching her reactions is what many will find most entertaining.

So far, I think the best of the boys are Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert, though Jorge Nuñez has a nice voice and a definite likeability factor going on. Scott MacIntyre has a nice voice and did a solid job with the Bruce Hornsby's "Mandolin Rain" though he does not have the best voice among the bunch.

Other than Kristen McNamara, I would have liked to see Ju'Not Joyner, Jackie Tohn, and possibly Nathaniel Marshall make it through. Nathaniel seems to be the male version of Tatiana in that they both love drama. He would have been entertaining to say the least.

And it is pretty obvious that the judges are pushing Lil Rounds-who has a nice, solid singing voice, but there isn't anything particularly distinct about it. She actually reminds me a bit of LaToya London from Season 3, though Rounds does not have as good a voice as LaToya.

I wish I could say I am looking forward to the Wild Card show tonight, but with all the forgettable stinkers they chose to bring back, coupled with the fact that who makes it through will be up to the judges and not the public--we have a pretty good idea who their favorites already are, and who they're likely to push though. Yet will will see, won't we?
