American Idol Wild Card Results, March 5, 2009: Jasmine Murray, Matt Giruad, Megan Corkrey and Anoop Desai
American Idol Wild Card Results
Jesse Langseth took the stage first. She sang "Tell Me Something Good," by Rufus & Chaka Khan. Paula loves the song, and is dancing around the judges table immediately. Randy didn't think she sang that well, Kara DioGuardi said she was a bit off but had great "swagger," and Simon said it was better than the first time around, but she was a little to self-absorbed during the performance.
Matt Giruad takes the stage next, performing the Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You." Kara thought it was a little over the top during some points, but she appreciates his effort to bring back the blues. Paula liked the song choice, but voiced that it was not really his best genre. Simon said it was much better than last week's performance, but Simon hated Matt's outfit. He said Matt reminded him of Taylor Hicks. Randy was impressed, and hinted at a sure spot in the Top 12.
Megan Corkrey's up next, performing "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree," by KT Tunstall. Paula thought the song was a good choice, and her look was right on point for the performance. Simon enjoyed the performance, and Randy liked the song choice, but said it could have been performed a bit better. Kara said she brings variety to the competition, and is a much needed performer.
Von Smith performs "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word," by Elton John. Simon says he's becoming a bore, while Randy said he had trouble with his pitch. Paula says he over-thinks the performance and his performance begins to suffer.
Jasmine Murray sings "Reflection" by Christina Aguilera. Randy says she has greatly improved since her last performance, Paula loved her song, and Kara said it was a different style than what she was expecting. Simon says she did a fantastic job and hinted to a guaranteed spot in the Top 12.
Rick Braddy's up next, performing "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. Kara says the performance was right on, and he did a wonderful job. Paula said he nailed it, Simon said the song was good, but the performance was clumsy. Randy said it was a poor song choice, and he was to self-absorbed during the performance.
Tatiana del Toro sings "Saving All My Love for You," by Whitney Houston. Paula said she was confused and wondered why Tatiana chose to repeat a song she had performed previously in the competition. She did admit that the performance was great. Simon didn't like the repeat performance choice, and if she expects to make it to the Top 12 she needs to learn some new songs. Randy and Kara agreed that you never know what to expect with Tatiana.
Anoop Desai wrapped up the evening, singing "My Prerogative" by Bobby Brown. Simon calls him an enthusiastic dog, and says that people really like him. Randy loved the performance, and said he's okay with people repeating songs if they perform hard. Kara admitted she wanted to get up and dance, which is very out of the norm for her. Paula says he whipped out some nasty moves, and everyone loved the performance. At the end of the performance he calls out Chapel Hill, citing the anniversary of the shooting death of UNC-Chapel Hill student body president, Eve Carson.
Jasmine wins a spot in the Top 12, along with Megan and Matt. Anoop is called forward, and since all spots are now taken, Simon tells him he will be a member of the Top 13-they added a spot for him!
