American Idol: Wild Card Show, Up, Down and Surprising

Jasmine, Megan and Matt Steal the Night. With Anoof as a Shocker

Thursday night's American Idol was one that I think everyone will remember, a lot of singing, some good some bad, and even a shocking surprise in the end. First up for the night was Jesse Langseth started off the night with tell me something good, it was not a bad attempt at the song but really to much for her, she fell flat, and off key many times over the course of the song. Following Jesse, Matt Giraud came back from his not so great cold play song back to the blues and soul that he has become known for with a wonderful performance. I personally enjoyed his performance the best from the whole night, he really has something there, he just needs to make sure he stays in the range that is good for him, and cold play was not it. Thank goodness tonight he redeemed himself for America. Megan Joy Corkrey chose to sing a K.T Tunstall song, not the best song choice for her if you ask me, but she did alright the upswing of this song choice was that it did allow us to see her fun, and quirky style, which served her well in the long run.

Swinging us back into a bluesy soulful song was Von Smith, a lovely performance but over all it could be considered forgettable. The beautiful Jasmine Murray blew things off when she sang Reflection, I had not though too much of Jasmine personally, until tonight. She really showed us that she has a big voice I there, while the performance was not flawless, it was certainly memorable and when your up as a wild card memorable is the key. The final three performances of the night were Tatiana Nicole Del Toro, Anoop Desai, and Ricky Braddy, only Ricky's performance of Superstitious is even worth mentioning. Tatiana, as usual grated my nerves to the point where I wanted to grab my computer screen and give her a swat on the rear end. She sang the same song, she sang before, you just don't do that when your supposed to be singing for your life on a show, you make yourself look foolish and utterly forgettable!

With all of those performances before me, I really have to say the judges got their choices correct. Jasmine, Megan and Matt rounded out their choices for the top 12, based on the performances tonight; I think America would have agreed with them. The shock of the night came, when in the very last seconds of the show Simon Cowell announced that this year would not be a Top 12, but a Top 13 the first time in idol history. Their choice for number 13? Anoop, one of my personal forgettable performance's for the night, so I can not say that I agree with that choice, but I do think the choice to make it a top 13 is interesting, and I know I look forward to seeing what happens, and I think America will enjoy it as well.
