American Idol's David Archuleta Debuts Single 'Crush'

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta debut single Crush debuted on the radio show Elvis Duran and The Morning Show. David Archuleta reportedly finished his single last night. Crush is part of a full album that will be released in November.

David Archuleta's Appearance on Elvis Duran

American Idol finalist David Archuleta gave an extensive interview on Elvis Duran. He answered questions about his American Idol experience, his career, and his new single Crush. David Archuleta came across as humble, polite, and genuinely sweet. One enjoyable moment of the interview came when a fan wrote in saying that he was her "new crack." David Archuleta was amused at the idea of being someone's crack but replied that "it's better than the real thing." Another fan called in to say that she not only appreciated David Archuleta as a singer, but that he was a great person. The American Idol alum's single Crush debuted on the show. David Archuleta was reportedly shaking when the song was being played.

David Archuleta and Crush

The single Crush talks about the emotional and physical sensation of having a crush. The lyrics talk about the rush, being mesmerized, and catching your breath. Crush is a song that many young fans could relate to. While David Archuleta was known as a balladeer on American Idol, Crush has more of an R&B style. The range and the tempo of the song really showcase his smooth soothing voice.

David Archuleta and other American Idol runner-ups

David Archuleta follows in the footsteps of American Idol runner-ups including Diana DeGarmo, Bo Bice, and Clay Aiken, all of whom had very different careers. American Idol runner-up Diana DeGarmo's single Dreams peaked at #1 on Billboard, but her full album performed poorly due to lack of promotion and songs that were too catered to the teen demographic. Bo Bice's single The Real Thing performed moderately well. Yet the talented rocker has not enjoyed the same success as winner Carrie Underwood. This could be due to the American Idol franchise trying to market him as more of a pop singer. Clay Aiken is the most successful runner-up in history. His sales easily eclipsed American Idol Ruben Studdard. His devoted Claymates have remained loyal.

American Idol's David Archuleta and Crush could give Clay Aiken a run for his money. Although David Archuleta appeals to the teen girl demographic, I believe his appeal is universal. On Elvis Duran's show, he was also receiving support from male fans, thirty-somethings, and senior citizens. Another fan also wanted him to record an album in Spanish. At 17, American Idol's David Archuleta has a bright future ahead of him.

It is nice to hear a tasetful song that has a catchy tune. This is the PERFECT song to launch his career because he IS only 17 and that is where his fan base is. We have so many artists talking about sex, drugs, partying all night...etc...and it is really nice to know good songs can be written without all that garbage. As a father of two teens, it is nice to hear my daughters singing along to this song and really enjoying it and themselves. This kid IS a great role model and will only get better (if that is possible). Go David. From a concerned dad raising young girls in this crazy world, it is nice to have people like you I can feel good about when they listen to music. God Bless!

This could prove very useful info as my daughters are approaching their teen years- I haven't heard his name in the house yet, but I bet I will.

I hope his voice holds up, and that he holds up to the pressure of early fame. Good write-up.
