American Idol's Fantasia Barrino Reports Hate Mail

Last night, American Idol's Fantasia Barrino received hate mail containing death threats, racially charged language, and racial slurs.

According to TMZ, the letter had told Fantasia Barrino to "go back where you came from and die."

The author of the threatening letter turned claims to have worked as a security guard at FOX while Fantasia was a contestant on American Idol.

Barrino had read the letter after finishing a performance of The Color Purple at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. She immediately reported the letter to theater security and contacted the LAPD. There will be heightened security at the theater and outside Fantasia Barrino's dressing room from now on.

Fantasia Barrino won American Idol 3. She was best-known as an R&B singer whose voice was eerily reminiscent of Macy Gray. Since leaving American Idol in 2004, she produced two studio albums and earned eight Grammy Award nominations. In 2007, she began starring in Broadway's The Color Purple, based on the novel by Alice Walker.

Fantasia Barrino Receives Threatening Hate Mail: Other Celebrities

It's an unfortunate reality that public figures will receive a fair amount of hate mail. Last month, Heidi Montag reported being bombarded with hate mail in response to her extreme plastic surgery. Although she has not reported receiving death threats, some of the letters are particularly stinging.

One writer told her that her plastic surgery went against God's will. According to her husband, Spencer Pratt, she took the letter to heart because she considers herself a spiritual person. (as reported by ShowBizSpy). Yet even Spencer doesn't seem on board with her plastic surgery. He liked the way she looked before her surgery.

And Kristen Stewart has felt the wrath of angry Twilight fans. Stewart had been bombarded with hate mail from Robert Pattinson's fans who felt that she was stringing him along while still officially dating her longtime boyfriend Michael Angarano.

While Twilight fans liked the idea of Stewart and Pattinson dating both on-screen and off-screen, they were protective of him and felt she was double-crossing him. Kirsten Stewart responded by explaining that she cared about both Michael and Rob and that she didn't want to hurt either one, and that she hoped fans would understand and stop sending hate mail. (as reported by Softpedia).
