TV's singing competition may be tentative. The 19-year-old California musician was hospitalized February 23 with severe abdominal pains.

The ginger-haired, bearded singer and instrumentalist (whose "American Idol" repertoire has so far included his own accompaniment on the upright bass, guitar and melodic) was admitted to Cedars Sinai Hospital Wednesday afternoon.

According to TMZ, Casey Abrams took ill during a rehearsal at CBS Television City in Los Angeles. The Cedars Sinai medical staff, examining and treating the young performer, opted to keep him overnight and perhaps longer. As yet, doctors have not issued any public statements about Casey Abrams' medical condition.

What will happen to Casey Abrams' "American Idol" run?

"American Idol" has apparently scheduled a taping of the Top 12 men's auditions for Friday, February 25. If Casey Abrams remains hospitalized and is unable to participate, his "American Idol" Season 10 journey may be over.

However, Fox TV has not officially confirmed this decision to eliminate Casey Abrams, if he cannot make the "American Idol"taping date.

"American Idol" producers have already set a precedent of grace for unexpected sick leave. Season 9 finalist Crystal Bowersox, a favorite among "American Idol" judges and viewers, was hospitalized for diabetes complications last year. "American Idol" flipped the men's and women's audition schedules to give Crystal Bowersox a change to recover, and she went on to the final two.

Can Casey Abrams prove as fortunate as Crystal Bowersox?

Who is Casey Abrams?

Casey Abrams, hailing from Idyllwild, California, auditioned for "American Idol" Season 10 in Austin, Texas, where he charmed the judges (Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler) with his unique bluesy-jazz style and his melodica. His rendition of Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor" brought down the house, so to speak, in the audition room.

Graduating in 2009 from Idyllwild Arts Academy, Casey Abrams is a music major at the University of Colorado at Boulder. On the side, Casey Abrams has reportedly played local jazz gigs, scored films and written his own songs.

The Casey Abrams of "American Idol" Season 10 is not to be confused with the Boston-based singer and songwriter of the same name.
