And then there were nine... Motown week on "American Idol" ended with a night filled with music and a final good bye for one of the top ten contestants -- Michael Sarver.

As usual the show opened with a group sing along, this time it was a medley of Motown hits. Results night can be a bit of a harrowing experience for the Idol hopefuls and new it has been revealed that the group sing a-longs are pre-recorded and the singers lip synch to the songs; but Idol officials insist that the solo performances are very much live, which in the past was evident when performers forgot song lyrics.

Motown Performance night's shining star Adam Lambert was the first singer to be saved. After being told that she could be in danger this week by Simon Cowell, Megan Joy Corkley did not end up in the bottom three; but the man who Simon Cowell called a fron runner Matt Giraud did find himself in the bottom three along with Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre. However, Scott found himself saved for from elimination for another week but not from Ryan Seacrest's bad guiding skills.

Season 2 "American Idol" winner Ruben Stoddard returned to the Idol stage to perform his new single "Together". Ryan also announced that the "velvet teddy bear" had married since his stint on "American Idol".

Other musical performances of the night were a duet by Britain's Joss Stone and Motown legend and the mentor for this week Smokey Robinson. Multi Grammy Award winning superstar Stevie Wonder sand a medley of a few of his hits, which was followed by the announcement of who was up for elimination. Oil roughneck Michael Sarver got the bad news that not only would be have to sing for his life but would have to sing after hearing the great Stevie Wonder. When he heard the news Michael said, "and I have to sing after Stevie, oh, crap!" In the end Sarver's performance was not good enough to earn him the first save of the season. Michael will be a part of the Idol tour, but for now he will return to Texas and his family.

Along with the results on next Wednesday's show, fans will get a look at last year's "American Idol" winner David Cook will show off his new video.
