American Idols Season 6

A Rough Start for the New Season as We See the True Talent of the Guys and Gals

American Idol has wowed us in the past seasons. Season one we had Kelly Clarkston, Season two Clay and Ruben, season four we saw Carry Underwood go from small town girl to huge star and just last year we saw the rise of Taylor Hicks, Kathryn McFee, and Chris Daughtry. So as usual when this year geared up I was ready and waiting to see the talent emerge from the four corners of the United States, I was sadly disappointed.

Ok so the first few week the show airs we love seeing people fall flat on their faces but after that hilarity we like to watch the real talent and focus of the show, people who can sing very well. This season I had high hopes and expectations that were quickly dashed in the first night of the top 12 performances by the guys.

The night started off okay, and ended on a high note, but in-between was horrific. I would have to give the worst performance of the night to Mr. Sundance Head, an early competition favorite. He was off key the whole time was just painful to watch. Blake Lewis was good with his rendition of "Somewhere only We Know" and veteran Nick Pedro was a relief to hear. Chris Sligh was a good singer, but very rude to Simon (Hard to believe) which was a real turn off. All in all the boys were very very bad. Sundance Head and Brandon Rogers were probably the worst of the group although Brandon is likable, we may see him stick around for a few weeks, we'll just have to wait and see.

Wednesday the girls had a chance to prove they deserved to get to this stage in the completion, and a few of them did just that. Leslie Hunt is a redhead with no rhythm, but has a very interesting voice, not the best but very different. Gina Glocksen was a standout with her powerful voice. Receiving and returning some criticism from Mr. Cowl, but she was great regardless. Jordin Sparks was awesome as was Melinda Doolittle but the real show stopper was single mom Likisha Jones. Her performance was absolutely amazing, and I was not one of her fans before Wednesday, but I am now! The rest of the girls were just blah, with nothing overly impressive. I will say however the worst performances would be attributed to Alaina Alaxander and Antonella Barbra, both were painful to watch. This is a real shame because I was really hoping to see Antonella do well, she was one of my early favorites, but now I'm not so sure

If it was a competition between all 24 contestants at one time, and America was able to vote for their favorite, the top 12 would consist of only three guys and nine girls. I suppose that's the reason we have to vote for the guys and gals separately because there would inevitably be an unfair split between the two, although why should it matter? It's a singing competition to see who the best is, and I don't really think a very talented girl should lose her spot in the top 12 to an average guy. Anyways I'll be watching the show with great interest, seeing how the contestants grow and mature as time wears on, I just hope the guys, and most of the girls get their acts together or season 6 will fall into the shadows of American Idol history

You are right about this season. I'm SOOOOOOO disappointed. Out of all the finalists, there are only maybe a half dozen who can really sing. I don't think we are going to find a Kelly Clarkson, Reuben Studdard, or Carrie Underwood in this group.
