American Idol's Tim Urban Performs "Can't Help Falling in Love" for Elvis Week

American Idol's Tim Urban showcased his romantic side on the stage performing "Can't Help Falling In Love" for Elvis week. After receiving some mentoring from former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert, Urban took to the stage and heeded the advice to make the song his own. Tim Urban sat in front of the mike strumming his acoustic guitar and really let his voice speak for itself tonight. There was nothing to distract the judges or audience from the raw sound of Urban's vocals and this performance was easily his best to date.

With the competition growing more fierce on American Idol, contestants are under more pressure than ever to really rise up, stand out, and show off their versatility for the judges. After the unusual twist in last week's elimination round, American Idol will say goodbye to two contestants tonight instead of one on the results show. Not wanting to find himself in the bottom two or at risk for elimination this week, Tim Urban said that he wanted to go out there and show that he really understands what the lyrics to his Elvis song are all about. Urban's performance of Presley's timeless "Can't Help Falling In Love With You" varied between soft crooning and strong, sustained vocals that commanded the judges to consider him more closely as a solid contender.

At 20 years of age, Tim Urban could have just as easily been singing to his latest crush, which is how his performance really conveyed. At the end of the performance, the American Idol judges were unanimous in their praise of Urban's effort. Randy Jackson joked that as surprising as it might be, he actually liked it. Ellen commented that much like the first time she did a shot of tequila, she wasn't sure she was going to like it; the more she had, the more she liked it. She said she now feels the same way about Tim Urban-the more she hears him, the better she likes him. Judge Kara DioGuardi called it her favorite Tim Urban performance ever. DioGuardi went on to say the performance was authentic, real, from the heart, meaningful, and current. Simon Cowell stated that Tim Urban has managed to go from zero to hero in two weeks and that his ability to listen as well as take advice is serving him well on this season's American Idol.

Tim's confidence is growing over the course of this season on American Idol-something that is well received by the judges and audience alike. Admittedly, Tim Urban hasn't been my favorite performer on American Idol, but this performance coaxed me into doing something I rarely do-giving it a second listen. I liked it even better the second time around, it was very nicely done.
