American Idol's Top 12 Girls Perform Billboard Hits

American Idol's top 12 girls took the stage Tuesday night to perform live for the first time on the famed round stage. The contestants chose their hits from the Billboard charts. The two-hour event began with a strong performance by Paige Miles, who sang It's Alright Now. All four judges were unanimous is saying that she delivered a powerful performance and is one of the best voices in the competition. It looked like it was going to be a great night for the performers and the voting audience at home. Ashley Rodriguez took the stage next and performed Happy by Leona Lewis. The judges didn't like her song choice and thought she was trying too hard to sound like Leona.

This theme of poor song choices and lack of originality seemed to be the case for many of tonight's contestants. Janell Wheeler sang What About Love by Heart and was given the same feedback, it was the wrong song choice, and it lacked originality. Michelle Delamor, Crystal Bowersox, Katelyn Epperly Lacey Brown and Didi Benami, who promised not be emotional tonight, received the same feedback from the judges after their performances.

There were a few standpoint performances tonight. Lilly Scott performed a little-known Beatles hit, Fixin' a Hole, accompanying herself on guitar. Simon called it one the best performances of the night, and Lilly was praised for originality. Siobhan Magnus performed her interpretation of Wicked Game and received great reviews from all four judges.

After tonight's performances, the fate of the two youngest contestants may be in jeopardy. Sixteen-year-old Haeley Vaughn sang the Beatles' I Wanna Hold Your Hand strumming along with her guitar. Randy and Kara said she needed to work on her vocals and Simon called it "a complete and utter mess." Katie Stevens, who recently turned 17, performed Michael Buble's Feelin Good and was criticized for choosing an older song and not sounding like a 17-year-old. The phone lines are open for voting until 11 p.m. EST.

Tune in tomorrow night to watch the top 12 guy contestants perform live, and we may actually find out who Tim Urban really is.
