So who made it through? America has voted and moving on to the top 12 are Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace, and Michael Sarver. What was America thinking?
I have to say first that I agree with Alexis Grace making it through. She had given the best performance of the night on Tuesday night's American Idol. Simon I believe has it right in thinking that she will make it far in the competition.
However I could not understand why America voted to keep Michael and Danny on American Idol. Michael Sarver is a likeable guy and he has a good voice but his performance left much to be desired in my opinion. As for Danny Gokey, he gave a fairly disappointing performance of Mariah Carey's "Hero" and I felt that he was in trouble despite what the judges had said. And yet these two are now in the elite group of American Idol's top 12.
So who should have made it through? Based on singing talent Ricky Braddy should have been an automatic. Despite what Simon had said I think that Ricky had the talent and outsang most of the contestants on American Idol Tuesday night. So why didn't he make it? My guess would be that America voted based on looks and compassion. If they had voted for the most talented singers Ricky Braddy would have made it through to American Idol's Top 12.
The other contestant who I felt was cheated by America's vote was Tatiana Del Toro. I have to admit that she is quite a character and her laugh is enough to drive even the most calm person insane but, she can sing. When I heard that she was going to sing Whitney Houston I thought she was crazy. So many times on American Idol have contestants been told that they weren't good enough to sing Whitney. I was expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised when I heard Tatiana sing. So why didn't she make it? Perhaps it was all of the drama from American Idol Hollywood Week. Perhaps America couldn't take the laughter any longer. It certainly wasn't because her voice was horrible.
Hopefully next week America you can vote based on talent and not worry so much about looks or feeling sorry for someone. We'll have to see.
