American Idol's Worst, Tim Urban, Gone? Don't Bet on It

He's a 100/1 Long Shot; He Keeps Destroying His Song Selections: And Other American Idol Finalists Keep Falling

This writer makes no apologies for agreeing with American Idol judge Simon Cowell that the judges made the correct decision when they decided to cut Tim Urban out of the Top 24 finalists. In fact, this writer has no problem agreeing with anyone that thinks that Tim Urban is a joke and is only still on American Idol due to the dedication of tone-deaf Jonas Brothers fans and Vote For The Worst, the Web site dedicated to keeping the worst of American Idol disgracing the stage of American Idol.

So far, they're doing a great job (kudos where they're due, don't ya know?). Tim Urban, who has been Vote For The Worst's worster of the week since re-entering the Top 24 (he replaced Chris Golightly, who had somehow violated American Idol's contract rules), has gotten the VFTW bump now for six weeks in a row. Why? Because Vote For The Worst aren't hypocrites, they're just hellbent on keeping American Idol viewers from being shepherded by the judges and producers of the show. In fact, they do this by shepherding voters (they don't even care if you don't watch the show) to keep the worst contestant on the show.

(Hey, wait a minute...)

Going into Tuesday night's Top 9 performances, which will no doubt be a laugh riot for Vote For The Worst (the last time American Idol did the Beatles (Season 7) -- the Lennon/McCartney Songbook -- it was just shy of horrible). Of course, there could be a pleasant surprise, like when the contestants actually did a pretty decent job with the songs of the Rolling Stones three weeks ago (Top 12).

Just don't bet on it...

Speaking of which, oddsmakers at Bodog.com have Tim Urban at 100/1 to win American Idol Season 9. The next closest to not having a chance in hell of winning seems to be Katie Stevens, who bows at 40/1 odds.

Who does seem to have the best chance of winning this season? Crystal Bowersox, of course. The Ohio native is a clincher, apparently. Her odds: 1/1.

Lee Dewyze is the second favorite at 3/1. Then Casey James, Siobhan Magnus, and Michael Lynche all seem to have a less than 10/1 chance (Siobhan Magnus is at 9/2) of winning it all.

What does all that mean? Well, to the layman, it means that, although Katie Stevens has far better odds of winning than does Tim Urban, she will most likely be sent home due to the tireless work being done at VFTW. An example of that work was posted Tuesday, when a fan of VFTW sent in copies of two Tim Urban fliers that he was posting all over Atlanta.

So what do we learn from all this? Well, it simply means that you can be the worst at something and there will always be someone willing to support and bet on you.

I actually thought Tim's performance was watchable tonight. If he improves too much, though, he'll be taken off the VFTW website and might get voted off!

Tim Urban's as close to a musician as you are to a writer and yet several times in this diary entry of yours you refer to yourself as one.

Funny article. But I think you are over-estimating the impact of VFTW.

Look at their cheesy website. There are only a few dozen slackers who even bother POSTING COMMENTS! How many of these lazy shills bother voting? Not many I bet....

I think Tim Urban is still there for a different reason: I think there are a lot of people that don't agree with your taste in music, and really like this Tim Urban guy. Check out the "studio versions" of "Sweet Love" on YouTube. You will see Tim Urban isn't as bad as you are making him out to be, I think.

But I liked your take on this subject anyway. Well said! :)
