American Life League Produces Video Warning About Children's Sex Education Book

On Monday, the Catholic pro-life organization the American Life League announced that it has produced its second video report to expose the contents of the children's book It's Perfectly Normal, written and illustrated by Robie H. Harris and Michael Emberley of Planned Parenthood.

According to ALL, in recent times a Washington State Prison rejected a fundraising letter that included censored images from this book for being "sexually explicit" and "obscene." However, the American Library Association, Booklist, Child Magazine, The New Yorker, Choice! Magazine, and Publishers' Weekly have praised the book, which seeks to educate children about matters such as puberty, gender identity, reproduction, birth control, and STDs.

The book's emphasis is on health and thinking about actions before engaging in them.

"Parents need to know what Planned Parenthood has in store for their children and this report is an excellent starting point...We will continue to use this new media to expose the nation's largest abortion chain and we call on Christians across the nation to join us in putting a stop to tax payer funds for Planned Parenthood," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League.

ALL has called Planned Parenthood's children's book, which was written for children 10 and up, a "war on childhood innocence".

Previously, ALL has published attacks on the book calling it "kiddie porn" and "child abuse".

The authors of the book, however, claim that research shows massive amounts of evidence that pre-teens and teenagers who are educated about sexual matters are the ones who tend to delay sexual activity until they are much older and are not as easily peer-pressured into having sex before they are sure they are ready.

The illustrator and author have also insisted that they did a great deal of scientific research and consulted some of the world's leading childhood development experts to make certain that the words and images worked in tandem show scientifically accurate and respectful information for educating children while emphasizing close, committed, and loving relationships.

Planned Parenthood has gone on the defensive about its stated mission and reputation time and again against hostile groups who claim it is an organization that supports the cause of abortion the same way that the often maligned Hemlock Society facilitates suicide.

However, supporters of Planned Parenthood point out that only three percent of its activities are geared toward facilitating a healthy abortion. Mainly, they say, Planned Parenthood seeks to educate and give free clinical examinations to girls and women who come to it so that they can feel less ostracized, cared about, or in control of their own destinies. It is not an organization that backs any one religion-a trait that has often been at the root of the hostility sent its way.
