American Music Awards 2009 Winners: Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson Rule the Night
Black Eyed Peas and Jay-Z Take Two Awards as Well; Gloriana (Who?) Wins Breakthrough Artist Award
Unfortunately, the 2009 Artist of the Year (American Music Awards are bestowed by popular voting) was not at the award ceremony to receive her awards. On tour in London, she accepted her awards via satellite.
Pop icon Michael Jackson, whose death in late June sparked a resurgence in interest in the artist's music, won four of the five American Music Awards for which he was nominated. As mentioned, he handed Taylor Swift her only loss of the evening. Michael Jackson won for Pop/Rock Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album for "Number Ones." He also won for Soul/R&B Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album (again for "Number Ones").
The AMAs Breakthrough Artist award, an award that Taylor Swift won in 2008, went to another country music act, Gloriana. The little known artist -- up against Kid Cudi, Keri Hilson, Lady Gaga, Drake, Kings of Leon, and Zac Brown Band -- joked about no one knowing who they were.
Whitney Houston won a special International Artist of the Year award.
Jay-Z took home the Rap/Hip Hop Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Album ("Blueprint 3") Awards.
Black Eyed Peas won the Favorite Band, Duo, or Group award for both Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories.
Thirteen of the 20 major awards went to four artists -- Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, and Black Eyed Peas.
The Country Favorite Male Artist went to Keith Urban. Rascal Flatts won the Country Band, Duo, or Group Award for the fourth year in a row.
Beyonce wasn't there to receive her lone award: Favorite Female Artist in the Soul/R&B category.
Alternative Rock Favorite Artist went to Green Day.
Aventura took home the Favorite Artist in the Latin category.
Mary Mary won for Contemporary Inspirational Favorite Artist.
Favorite Soundtrack went to the "Twilight Soundtrack."

michael jackson definitely should've won best artist of the year, i dont know how taylor swift won against him on a title that big. but she should be completely honored and favor that moment.
