American Rabbit: Originated from the United States

Elisia Yun
Just like its name suggests, the American Rabbit originates from the United States. The American Rabbit was actually developed in 1912 by a Lewis H. Salisbury. The American Rabbit became rather popular, and is today still a very popular breed of rabbit in America. They are highly valued as pets, and are very commonly shown at fairs with the blue and white as different varieties available.

The American Rabbit comes in two different varieties. They come in two colors of blue and white. In shows, the different varieties are judged in different categories and rounds although they are of the same breed. The Blue American Rabbit is a darker blue breed of rabbit, and has blue eyes. Their fur is a rich slate blue color, and is carried down to the skin through the thick fur. The fur is dense, deep and clear. The White American Rabbit, on the other hand, has a pristine white, sparkling color throughout with beautiful pink eyes. The American Rabbits require regular grooming in order to keep the fur from becoming sick or matting. Grooming them regularly will keep their fur beautiful.

The American Rabbit is an averagely sized rabbit weighing up to ten pounds, and the doe, the females, a pound heavier than the males and slightly larger. They have a very nice and docile personality making them great pets to have around! They are one of the most popular rabbit pets in America, and are just gorgeous companions although you will have to have spare time to care for them regularly.

Their bodies are generally mandolin shaped, and rather well-toned. They have a slight arch in their bodies, and they always appear to be bright and alert. Their eyes in particular should always look bright and alert, and their bodies have a sleek appearance.

American Rabbits are quite popular in shows, and have to live up to quite the standard expectations. For one, they will lose marks for having mismatched toenail and eye color. Extremely heavy bone structure is also not highly prized upon, and uneven coloration in their fur will also dock marks. Short legs are also a no-no, and so is coloration other than specified. In short, a Blue American Rabbit should not have some of the color traits of the White American Rabbit.

Even if some American Rabbit cannot live up to some of the expectations as required by in the show, they are still amazing pets to have, and are gorgeous rabbits anyways.
