Americans Against Birthers

It's Time to Learn to Let Go

Cherrie Webb
Someone once told me that Americans are like pit bulls when it comes to something we believe in. Even my favorite dim-witted Veep candidate compared and stated that the difference between a hockey mom and a pit-bull is lipstick. (Yeah, whatever. My guess would have been opposable thumbs and offspring that walked upright, but hey that's just me.) Birthers are a lot like Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. They don't know when to stop, when enough is just enough. They haven't been able to move on with their lives and accept reality.

For those that don't know, Birthers are those folks that don't believe President Obama was born in America or on American soil, ergo not a "natural born citizen". In their minds -feeble as they may be- birthers believe that President Obama was born in Africa or maintained his Kenyan citizenship after he reached majority. These birthers haven't had any problems with the documented Panamanian birth of Senator McCain whose family was in the military. They diligently press on with the notion that our president d0es not hold a valid birth certificate, despite the verification by every government official in Hawaii and from sea to shining sea.

During two years of Democratic campaigning and then the subsequent elections, everyone including Osama Bin Laden looked deep into every nook and cranny of the now President's past. Honestly, didn't they realize that if there was something amiss, Clinton would have pounced on it like a leopard on a gazelle. Even during the election season, long after Obama's birth certificate had been scrutinized by everyone in the world, the birthers still insist that the president doesn't meet the standard of natural born citizenship. They've tried it all. His father held Kenyan and British citizenship. Hawaii wasn't a state. He was really born in Africa. All myths were quickly proven to be so and dispelled even by the most ardent detractors. But not so with the birthers.

I question the motives of Birthers, not because they are skeptical of the president's qualifications, but the non-political correctness of their skepticism. Is it not true and proven that Senator McCain, 25 years President Obama's senior, was born in the Panama Canal Zone? Is it not true that Panama, canal or no, is not a part of the United States, nor has it ever been? Hawaii became a state in 1959. President Obama was born in 1961 -two years after Hawaii was admitted into the Union. I question the motives of the Birthers, not because of their skepticism of the President's birth record, but because of their lack of criticism of the Senators McCain and Biden, or Governor Palin.

Am I playing the "race card"? In a word - YES. In this case, it's the only thing that makes sense. I know, I know. There are some folks that want to blame everything that has ever happened to them at the hand of others on race/ethnicity. The fact that Obama won the election shows that sometimes race doesn't matter. Sometimes it's just a simple case of the majority of Americans feeling more afraid of Sarah Palin than they were of the Black guy. Even the KKK rationalized that he was only "half black". Really? Which half? Enough of that. It's easy to get a tad sidetracked when there is so much evidence to supp0rt a point and one wants it all to be heard. Anyway, as far as the race card is concerned, in this case it's a full house.

Surprise of all surprises, I didn't vote for Obama because he is black. There are millions of us who felt we were voting for the better team. Birthers just can't accept, wrap their minds around the idea of a Black president, leader of the free world, commander-in-chief.

My mother always said if something doesn't make sense, it's probably not true.

The true difference between the senators, governor and president is that one of them has a higher content of melanin in his genetic code. Of course, it isn't politically correct or publicly acceptable to state that the reason that the president is under undue scrutiny by the birthers because of his ethnicity. Even former President Carter has stated that the majority of the problems that are being had by the president with legislation and mandates and agendas are because he is black. If the Nobel Peace Prize winning President Carter who was born and raised in the South can admit and accept this, what is wrong with everyone else? Even the Hillary supporters for McCain had this same issue, but that is a case for another argument...

The beautiful thing about America is that we can agree to disagree without fear of being harmed. Well most of the time. These rabid, over-zealous, misguided souls just don't know how to let things go. They're the bully in the playground that loses a fight and constantly wants a rematch. Over and over and over. No logic. No discussion. No rationale. All they have that is left is the idea that they are correct and they continue their course, preserver, scream loud enough, that they will be seen as right and true.

They have annoyed me, actually, they've annoyed most of the people I know, most logical people. Birthers, like Hillary's for McCain are racist, sore losers. They don't get it. It's over, done, finito.

Get a new hobby, Birthers, and learn to let go.
