Good News for Dog Lovers

It seems the government on all levels has been trying to eradicate rabies in man's best friend, and it seems as if they have finally accomplished this task. Dog to dog transmission of rabies has been eradicated due to the diligent vaccinations of our canine friends. This is due to the massive education and rabies vaccinations within our canine population. Together the American public has helped the government when this particular battle.

This is a major public health success story and it is one goal that we all have worked hard to accomplish. Even though the dog to human transfer of rabies is highly preventable, up to fifty-five thousands people around the globe in an average year. That is about one death every ten minutes or so. This one disease is so easily preventable so it seems so senseless when it takes a life.

Stay away from wild animals, and call the dog warden if you see a strange dog in your neighborhood. These prevention efforts have worked in the past and will continue to work in the future if we spread the word.

The tactics of the United States Government have been long standing policies on dog licensing, vaccinations and stray dog control. Dog owners can be fined if the do not license their dogs, and this measure had forced many dog owners comply with the policy thus by eliminating the rabies cases.

The World Health Organization is organizing a one-day meeting that would spot light the findings and focus on prevention and education around the world. The reasoning behind this is if the citizens of planet earth realize the dangers and prevention techniques, we can eradicate the cases of dog to human rabies around the world. This would be a great human health success story, and it would be one war won in the battle.

Even though the rabies within our canine population is officially eradicated, the general population still needs to worry about rabies from other sources such as wild animals. Bats have a high rate of rabies and the public should avoid them at all costs. There could also be a rabies threat stemming from the attacks of wild animals, so the public is warned about these dangers as well.

This is a success story from both the state and federal governments working with the citizens. This story should show us what can happen when we all work together for one case.
