The theme for this week was the music of Beyonce and the crew challenges depended upon which song the groups were given but all of the challenges came from the videos. Beyonce herself presented each crew with their song and challenge via video.
The first crew to take the stage was the all girl group We Are Heroes who performed to the hit song "Single Ladies". Choreographer and judge Shane Sparks said, "this crew is hot!" and told the girls that they represented. Hip-hop artist and judge Lil' Mama agreed with Shane. Judge and singer JC Chasez said that the girls covered a lot of bases and that he liked the performance but cautioned the group to use more of the stage.
Bronx crew Rhythm City followed with "Sweet Dreams" where they were challenged to update the popular twenties dance the Charleston. Lil Mama noted the symmetry of the open and closing of the dance and remarked on how the dancers were clean. Prior to each dance the crews have a short video about their dance; Rhythm City remarked about not caring for the Charleston and the difficulty of incorporating it into their routine. JC only told the group to learn from their history. Shane praised the group for their creativity saying that the crew was the most creative he had seen in a while.
Next up were Seattle's Massive Monkeys who had to use the hoolah-hoop into their song "Work it Out". JC said that the group had some great stunts but felt the dance moves were a little elementary and Shane was at somewhat of a loss for words in his description but felt the routine was a little weak. But Lil Mama said that she was excited by the dancers and thought the routine was entertaining.
Beat Your Feet Kings were challenged to update the Uh-Oh dance in Crazy in Love. This five dancer crew includes four guys and one girl - Porche' Anthony. Shane said that he was proud of Porche', saying that she ripped it. Lil Mama said that their personality was on point, but JC called the dance ok but cautioned the crew to get loose but not sloppy.
The hick-hop group Southern Movement were given Jumpin' Jumpin' by Destiny's Child and were challenged to bounce, shake and dip. Lil Mama noted how the group had worked on their levels saying that the routine was ok. Shane said yee-haw telling the group that they were sick, adding that the crew blows his mind. JC agreed with Shane but noted that the difficulty was not there.
The New York City crew of Vogue Evolution brings their distinctly unique style of dance to ABDC. This crew of battle tested dancers were challenged to bring the African roots of dance to Déjà Vu. Show host said that the crew made him smile and the audience was very enthusiastic once the dance was over. JC said that the group just woke him up adding that there were so many things he like about the dance. JC called the dance a great performance and said that they really connected with the audience. Lil Mama called the group refreshing noting the energy displayed by the crew. Lil Mama noted that it took a transgender woman to bring out the femininity adding that Leiomy brought out the queen in her. Shane said that he was trippin' saying that the crew ripped the stage. He added that Leiomy took it to the next level.
The first of the two crews in the bottom was the all girl crew of Artistry in Motion who performed using a chain to Diva. Lil Mama said that she felt the girls had the hardest challenge having to use the chain in their routine and JC said that the group did a great job and used their prop well.
The other group in the bottom was the Latin dancing crew of AfroBorike who were challenged to add belly dancing moves into their song Beautiful Liar by Beyonce and Columbian star Shakira. This six member - three guys and three girls - group made use of partnering to pull off some unusual variations on belly dance moves. Shane said that the girls were the hottest girls to grace the stage adding that the group brings a different and unique style to the stage. JC noted the chemistry among crew members and the sexuality from both sexes adding that they were fun to watch.
After a short consultation the judges decided to send the girls of Artistry in Motion home saving the Salsa dancers for another week.
Next week the crews will bring their inner Kung Fu Fighter as the dances will incorporate martial arts moves into their routines.
