Terrorism! A word, that brings fear into the lives of the people, of the United States. The attacks on the, World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001 gave many people a sense of insecurity and loss of hope, to have peaceful nation. Since then our lives have no longer been focused on what a great nation we are, instead it has been focused and centered on the fear of another attack. Does this mean we have lost our independence and freedom? Well no, but it does suppress our freedom. We should not have to fear going to an airport or into a city just incase something might happen.
I truly believe everyone is entitled to his or her own religious beliefs. I believe that what a person believes in is a very personal choice, which we as individuals must find and understand by ourselves. However this privilege is slowly being taken away from us. People are beginning to degrade people by his or her beliefs, many Christians no-longer feel safe to admit that, that is his or her choice of religion. They fear to say it incase they are seen to be, being racist. We as humans are constantly told that no two people are a like and that we are all individuals and can make our own choices, so why cant we by law show our choices?
I would personally say that the biggest threat to America's freedom is political correctness. That one phrase is beginning to destroy peoples lives, and as a country is putting restraints on freedom of speech, freedom of choice but most importantly it is taking away the freedom to be the country we once was. We fought to free slaves to unite our country and treat every man as an equal. We fought to separate ourselves from England so we could be a separate country, with our own thoughts, beliefs and rules. But what have we become since political correctness has strengthened in this country? We've become caught in a web of rules that suppress our thoughts, expression and actions. That isn't freedom, that isn't individualism, and it isn't America!
Former president Eisenhower once said "History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or timid." America is neither a weak nor a timid country yet terrorism, religion, and political correctness, bring a constant fear that we may lose the freedom that we fought so hard for. America is a highly respected country to which many people wish to live in. However because America is such a strong country, sometimes we take our freedom for granted, and it is not till something tragic happens that we really realize how lucky we are to have that freedom. Freedom is a precious gift, and is cherished by each individual is his or her own way. Our freedom will always be challenged, but as long as we stand as a united nation, we should neither fear nor contemplate losing our freedom. Treasure freedom with all your heart and this country shall never fall apart.
