DAYTON, OH - Award-winning whip artist and writer Gery L. Deer of Jamestown will be appearing at the Victoria Theatre August 13 through 15 in conjunction with the showing of the first three Indiana Jones movies during the Michelob Cool Films Series. Working in the traditional "Indy" costume, Deer will entertain for a half-hour outside the theater, and then move to the Victoria's historic stage for one final routine before each movie begins.

Deer, 42, is internationally recognized as an expert whip artist and instructor. He is the founder of the Society of American Whip Artistry and holds multiple titles in whip speed and accuracy. In 2007, he was selected Wild West Performer of the Year by the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame.

In addition to working on stage from Ohio to Las Vegas over the last two decades, Deer develops custom whip holstering equipment for feature films and appears regularly on national television programs like the CW's "Steve Harvey's Big Time Challenge," NBC's "America's Got Talent," and daytime's "The Bonnie Hunt Show."

His most recent television appearance was on the PBS program, Our Ohio, in a feature story about The Whip Artistry Studio, his whip performance and educational facility based in Jamestown. The exclusive whip school is the only one of its kind in the United States and provides certified, professional instruction in the use of the bullwhip as a sport and performance art.

"The Indiana Jones movies gave rise to a worldwide interest in the whip and the momentum has kept up over the years," said Deer, who is also a professional freelance writer and syndicated columnist. "It's always better with a live audience and I'm looking forward to giving movie goers at the Victoria Theatre something they will always remember."

The Indiana Jones theme weekend of films begin with Raiders of the Lost Ark on Friday evening, followed by The Temple of Doom on Saturday night, and The Last Crusade on Sunday afternoon.
